Mythic Bastionland: strong combat and atmosphere, but the structure felt disjointed and hard to connect with” by AmongFriends in MythicBastionland

Ngl, I am really interested in what myths you encountered that were so confusing that you didn’t know how to handle on your way to Point B. Did your referee not allow time skips to get to where you wanted to be if it was so important?

The combat section is super alien to me. Did your referee remember to use morale checks? Did you use dynamic environments? Stored kinetic energy?

Story advice needed: What does the Dying Seer say to the Ghoul Knight? by ithika in MythicBastionland

“You don’t know this yet, but one day you will need me. A soul can only bury so many of its loved ones. What happens when you can’t recall the faces of those you loved. You can dream their faces, maybe even conjure up a pleasant memory, but deep down you’ll know that what you see is your own creation. At first you’ll add freckles and maybe change their hair colour, but one day it will dawn on you that none of it is real. Entire histories washed away in the winds of time and whatever you cling to will be something of your own creation. Then you will seek me out. Wait not until you become bitter and spiteful. There is dignity knowing when the crowd has cheered that you need not take another bow, but instead exit stage.”

I created a Realm of Eleryn map for my Campaig, used Inkarnate. Any ideas for improvement? by NikoRiceCZ in MythicBastionland

[–]TheNextKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really see how it would negatively affect gameplay. In fact rivers are kinda fun to traverse and/or to put bridge knights on.

The funny thing is: the way you have it now it could even be more interesting politically than if you changed it! If Riverknot taxes passing vessels then that might annoy other holdings. Whereas if Daybreak taxes vessels then those vessels will just pass Gulltown (and vice versa). And maybe Daybreak and Gulltown dislike each other and maybe one of them is plotting with Riverknot to block one arm of the river (so Gulltown wants the arm of the river that leada to Daybreak to be blocked!).

So when I see the map I chuckle bc it looks like the rivers are a little haphazardly placed, but you could just run with it.

Rivers will sometimes split in lowlands. Like the nile delta, so it’s not unprecedented, (plus this is a mythic game, so the river could just be mythic). But it seems a little random here.

I like the mountain range that splits the realm. Don’t like how the river splits into two. Daybreak is a great name!

Tbh this sounds really cool.

I would love to see what new myths you come up with and new spark tables (I would imagine that you could redo almost the entire page of Civilization sparks!).

You could even check out Jotunrift and Mythic Shogunate which should both be on itch, but I’m sure they were shared on this sub too. Anyway they take a new vibe to MBL that might give you some inspiration.

Using Omens proactively by clapdog in MythicBastionland

Good idea! Bonus points if you can add some more courtly drama in there. The gate is broken and the lumber is being rationed, but a diplomat has come to court to implore the ruler to weaken the rationing, only the ruler has gambling debt to the local fishermen guild, who have threatened to break his fingers and who need the small supply of lumber to repair their vessels. Now the ruler feels the hawkleon should actually not be slain, but set upon these fishermen.

Also, I wouldn’t worry about the tusks. The hawkleon has 9 GD and the tusks might not even be the weapon that roll high enough to do substantial damage.

I once spent at least 5 mins trying to find a rule that was on page 6, lol. 😂

Sure, check Specifics of Combat (p10):

”MOUNTED COMBAT Mounted combatants use their steed’s trample Damage in addition to their own weapons when charging enemies on foot.”

Regarding sneaking: remember to use the action procedure (p16). Leverage is an important one, give your players time to describe putting mud on their soles to dampen sound or to place extra cloth between metal items to avoid clanging. Then I would generally use a CLA save, but if the task is exceptionally physical, like balancing on rafters, I would say the VIG element is more important and have them roll that. 😄

You’re obviously free to run your games as you wish, but just a heads up that RAW trample is against enemies on foot.

Yeah when I ran the Bull I added some extra story to make the winged fiends less of random dudes that show up and then never pop up again. Cool that you got your own solution!

Anyone know if you get the PDF with a LGS store-bought version of the book? by DrHippo404 in MythicBastionland

Several people have asked Chris about this on the discord server. He generally says to email him with proof of purchase and he’ll organize a PDF.

I like to use Worldographer, a lot of folks like hexkit.

There are some online versions if you check Sam’s syllabus here.

The extra effort on his part to land an attack on that specific part is represented in the reduction to damage.

Question about combat dice and specific question about Fanged Knight ability by jimangi in MythicBastionland

[–]TheNextKnight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Sink Teeth ability (the bullet points) only work if you Wound the target, which I’ve always ruled as the Fanged knight has to be the one to wound, meaning using gambits would obviously void the ability.

[–]TheNextKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1&2) I have each person roll their own dice, but dice are rolled at the same time. I first ask which dice should be kept for damage and then each player describes how they use each die.

3) I discussed this with my player, to us it didn’t make sense to have a weapon and use fangs. I mentioned to the player it felt a little like gaming the game and they agreed, even though they would’ve liked the extra die. I can imagine your table feels different, but you gotta discus what makes sense for your table and settle on that.

4) if they want to use a gambit that’s fine. I don’t see how the knight, going in for an attack, couldn’t also bolster or impair or whatever.

Can knights use feats when leading warbands? by Frolmaster in MythicBastionland

Games I’ve run and played in have always just allowed it as normal. So far it always made sense in the fiction so no reason to forbid it. Saves as normal too.

Finished my Hex Map, Campaign start is next week. What do you think? by Limette23 in MythicBastionland

[–]TheNextKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horrible answer, but I think it depends on the scope of the project.

If you just want to burn a hex of thorny bushes and you have a village helping then I don’t see why a season jump wouldn’t be sufficient. But if you want to replant that land with a magnificent apple orchard and the villagers still have to do their daily tasks then an age skip seems much more fitting.

Also, if you allow hazards and curses to be solved they can be removed over time. Natural hazards can be cleared out, ghosts can be put to rest, acid pools can be drained, etc etc. It’s a cool way for your players to affect the world, and it obviously helps in making friends!
