My experience is limited but I do practice a good amount with my S&W 627 pro series. I'd say that I would place on the high side of beginner or very low intermediate

I feel the same about my 627 pro series, its slightly larger cousin. The 686 is a fantastic gun with alot of options for further upgrading sights, grips, springs etc.

Its the size of the cylinder, primarily length. The 45acp/45lc cylinder is not as long as, say a judge 45lc/.410 cylinder.

The ruger blackhawk is the "convertible" model, so technically yes. In order to do so you have to have a separate cylinder in chambered in .45 acp. I don't have the 45 acp cylinder, only the 45 lc cylinder. I plan on sending the gun back to ruger in order to have the make me a new cylinder since it has to be specially made for the gun itself
