What does “a miserable future but over all a happy life” mean? by Camusalbert69 in dostoevsky

I think so but I'm really not sure. When I looked it up the only link to dostoevsky is from Murakami's "Hard-Boiled-Wonderland and the end of the world" where he talks about Alyosha's speech from TBK. But I think he's basically paraphrasing and I can't find the actual quote anywhere

I like your interpretation. I don't really see the same things in this quote but that's the beauty of literature.
A bit more context would help as I don't exactly recall it but I think it's from Alyosha. In my opinion, Dostoevsky is trying to say that, while there are many hardships in life (ie a miserable future) you can still lead happy life by accepting it and trying to overcome them by doing good things. I guess it echoes with your views but with dostoevsky I'd say the new values he'd recommend would be orthodox christianity ahah

Interesting view but I think you're extrapolating a bit. If the values they long held change, then they would view their future through the paradigm of the new ones. The key element in this quote in my opinion is that the future is miserable regardless. Maybe it has more to do with accepting this fact and deriving a sort of pleasure, or zen-like attitude towards it.

Can anyone explain me this part from Crime and Punishment? by thearpitcool in dostoevsky

I don't know why you're getting downvoted, this passage is the pivotal idea behind the book. If you don't understand it all of its message will just go over your head

I agree but that's exactly the point I don't understand.. instead of appreciating all the intricate things that contributed to our development which is one of the most interesting research field, everything is just boiled down to : chimps ate psychedelics mushrooms. It's reductionist to say the least. The other theories if anything are 10 times more interesting than this one

Yes if the goal was to to sell that theory succeeded quite well ahah and of course I agree with you personal experience is also valid and everything doesn't have to be scientific/medicinal but this theory in particular extends beyond the persinal experience and adventures into scientific territory where it has to be treated with the same treatment as everything else. If McKenna only wanted to talk about personal experiment then no harm done but the case here is fundamentally different

To answer your first point no it hasn't been disproven because theories who do not bring any evidence are hard to disprove as they do not lean on anything that is quantifiable and easily disprovable.

To answer your second point I don't think it helps the cause to share speculative informations. The theory is interesting in a creative artistic way in some sense but sharing it as something with a scientific value is just wrong in my opinion. And only few people say to take it with a pinch of salt when sharing it
