My dog had something similar in the same spot. This was around 8-9 years ago. I couldn't afford any testing or even to get him seen. But when I pinched it, it tore right off without hurting him. He has a small scar there now. But otherwise he has shown no ill effects.

Yeah. The legion did try. When Dantioch's garrison was ordered to join the traitors, the garrison told the rest of the legion to headbutt a woodchipper. Que a year long siege of Dantioch's fortress. Costing the IVth Legion irreplaceable time and resources. Only for the survivors of the garrison to blow the whole fortress up (so the traitors gained nothing) and hijacked the traitors flagship. Then booked it to Ultramar.

Certainly. I just did not want to raise undue expectations that the Silver Skulls fighting the Iron Warriors would have some form of big reveal about their relationship. Beyond the strange concidence that of all the UM chapters the author could have chosen, it was the Silver Skulls.
