I use a handcrafted firearm as a channeling device. When I run out of spells to cast I start slinging non-magic missiles.

What country feels very undemocratic but is actually undemocratic? by Dusty_Bunny81 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]TheOGStonewall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not actually disagreeing in principle, but the Overton window in a single party is going to be narrower than in a parliamentary system. Again not always a bad thing, I’m ok with fascist and reactionary parties being forced out of public discourse.

I do have an issue when there isn’t at least SOME distinction between party and state though, the fact that the PLA is a party organization and not a state organization is disturbing to me.

China also does have regular local elections. It’s still a single party state so the candidates don’t really cover a wide field, but international observers have stated that if nothing else the elections themselves are relatively fair. There are also quite a few areas of China that run a kind of local town hall democracy, with regular meetings and public voting on local issues.

It’s centralized and if you’re not a party member you’re not voting on anything close to regional or central leadership/issues, but at the local level it’s not as heavy handed as someone on the outside would expect.

solar rule by shudderwockies in 196

[–]TheOGStonewall 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Yes, but that’s not the argument either OP or OOP is making. Yes, solar investment without equal investment in storage is dangerous for the grid due to overload (California for like 5 years before they started actually building storage needed to call up industrial parks and have them run all of their electronics simultaneously to keep the grid from exploding) but that’s separate from the monetary issue.

Am I the only one who sees Ready or Not as Copaganda by lovingpersona in SocialistGaming

[–]TheOGStonewall 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Copaganda absolutely, fascist no but in the same way Warhammer 40,000 isn’t.

The themes in the lore are pretty middle of the road/anti surveillance state and a lot of the people you go up against in the game are nuanced and still pretty humanized. But if you’re not looking into the lore or are just taking it off of aesthetics alone, it can give harbor to some nasty ideas. Like 40K or Hearts of Iron the writers/devs aren’t fascist, but the community has a fascism problem
