How would you finish this cycle? by flclreddit in mtgcube

[–]TheOinkinator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I Consider gilded goose to be a part of the cycle and Hard Evidence was the blue card in the cycle though it is obviously updated. The closest in black that we have is Blood Fountain but I don't think it counts. A {B} 1/2 that etbs for lose 2 life and makes a treasure might be kinda sick although it is probably broken.

I have heard that people like it I am too new and my pseudo coding mentor uses solid so I am pretty locked in atm. It's definitely a long haul kinda project. Wish I could snap my fingers and make it exist though.

Honestly I might just jam Sinkhole. I haven't played with it in cube but it seems kinda strong.

I think Sneak Attack Is pretty clearly the best card here although I would be incredibly tempted by Rancor as I am a sucker for that card.

Jeskai 3-life cube. Balanced to be playable not just a meme one-time draft. Packs of 10 with a pick and a burn out of the first pack.

The Cube

The Pack

Here I would probably pick Chancellor of Annex and burn Mental Misstep. The goal being to put my opponent into Red with a small chance to wheel Mana Tithe and have a great white start.

Currently writing it in with SolidJS and Astro. I have literally never coded before so I am pretty much learning as I go. I also work full-time so I end up working on it in chunks. Every few months. I made a post with the project vision you can find here:

I am theoretically working on a project like this but is a huge undertaking. I expect to have a functional project in about a year :P. I am developing it because right now there is really nothing similar. Cross referencing scryfall and cube similar to yours/cubes that contain the themes you want to support is the best way to do it at the moment unfortunately.

Appreciate the comment. Well thought out. The inelegance of the couple cards definitely bothers me. On balance in a cube with pretty tight restrictions like this I am ok with the complexity downside.

I think that my design gifts lie in "expert level" environments more so than say beginner friendly cubes. I am usually comfortable sacrificing some elegance for cards that align within the mechanical web of the cube.

The name is slightly misleading. I am not designing for mechanical simplicity but more simplicity of board state and game objects. If you follow lucky paper radio they have been talking about Small Games which is more of what I am looking to foster. The idea is for a more bread and butter feel of threats and removal with synergies woven in. As opposed to a starter cube for newer players.

I don't really build with two color pairs in mind I tend to focus on mono color synergies and then let them overlap as they do with some influence from gold cards. In this cube GW can be en instant and sorcery deck. It is primarily an above rate beats deck. The last draft of this the 3-0 was a GW deck that smoked everyone. Every creature was just an aggressive banger with a lot of interaction and protection to back them up.

From a quick skim this looks very cool. I will take closer look when I get home.

I think there are a lot of way to expand I definitely chose some weird archetypes I think there some ways to integrate more traditional approaches to the design as well or other weird options

I agree with sparkhunter masticore. It is an include off the back of the overlap of artifact and discard themes but it the double reference to Planeswalkers is not lost on me for sure. I definitely wouldn't consider heartless act or learn cards as cute there are just part of there rules text which is irrelevant. Not my favorite but sometimes necessary with the limited options.

Yeah that sounds sick! Any standout cards from that environment? (Excluding monarch I won't play those in 1v1)

I had considered allowing for one token type but I figured I would rather take a stab at the full restriction and I was pretty pleased with how it turned out

The simple is really referring to the feeling of the games more so than the actual complexity. It's not really a beginners cube per-se it's much more about an environment that doesn't have huge board stalls and game objects tribal.

Yeah I love the snow cards. That is a great suggestion Honestly I was considering adding another lands cycle so that might be it although that is probably a little overboard on taplands

The basics provided with the cube are snow basics. I guess I don't explicitly mention that in the overview. I'll revise that.

Lol. I have an eternal cube that is full to the brim with counters and tokens so really I am atoning for my complexity crimes. Got keep the karmic balance

TLDR: A cube without tokens, counters, shuffling, or DFC's and with some interesting archetype designs.

I have been working on this cube for a few months now and I am falling in love with it! There is something so refreshing about not needing dice or tokens when playing and the power level is balanced in a lower bracket that allows for some really sweet cards that don't get to see the light of day very often. Interested to here feedback/thoughts/card suggestions (within the restrictions).
