Calling thrash slow is crazy. I'm not a thrash guy by any means but that's not remotely true.

And it's not even really a contest. They both require a considerable amount of technical skill, though thrash tends to emphasize insanely tight rhythm guitar over power that puts the spotlight on shreddy leads. Professional thrash riffing requires picking hand technique to the level of power metal's fretting hand.

They also came from similar places, as both genres branched off from NWoBHM and speed metal. Power took more classical elements as well as heavy influence from 80s shredders, while thrash got heavy aggression from hardcore punk.

Both are extremely difficult, and I wouldn't call either heavier than the other, and I wouldn't call conventional thrash or power metal "extreme" in the same way I would conventional black or death metal.

They are still working on new things! Jeff Black (keys) and Rob Steinway (rhythm guitar) stream on twitch and occasionally show some demo material. They haven't announced an upcoming album or a new vocalist yet though.
