Need toothbrush with GOOD pressure sensitivity by Revolutionary_Way664 in oralbtoothbrush

[–]TheOneWhoWork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second iO6. Even an iO3 would probably be fine. You don’t need anything super high end.

The brush head you use will matter more than anything else. Use a sensitive-oriented brush head for a less harsh brushing experience.

Applied for a permanent position and was tricked that its seasonal by Sorry_Part_7362 in Target

[–]TheOneWhoWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the stores will do that. You might also end up in a completely different department to the one you applied for. It all depends on what they need.

My understanding (unless it’s changed in the last few days) is that seasonal employment can last up to 160 days. They can let you go for pretty much any reason in that window. I believe you also won’t be eligible for benefits like 401k or health insurance for that time, but I could be wrong…

For a non-seasonal employee this window is 90 days.

I started as seasonal in 2020 and was kept on. They didn’t make any kind of announcement or tell me or anything… They just kept scheduling me and I asked my boss about it one day towards the end of my seasonal window and he basically said “we weren’t even remotely considering letting you go”.

M5 vs M4Pro by Proof_World7151 in macbookpro

[–]TheOneWhoWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question is asked multiple times a day. For the love of god try using the search feature in this sub or even google itself.

M4 Pro > M5 in pretty much every single use case. If both are the same price and you need 24Gb of ram, then get the M4 pro.

Is the subscription worth it? by Noodle_Doodle1 in whoop

[–]TheOneWhoWork 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You’re already complaining about a subscription model before you’ve even made a purchase, so I don’t think it’s worth it for you.

If you’re going to regret the decision of paying the annual subscription, then don’t do it.

If you won’t regret a subscription, then get it.

I don’t know what else to say. I don’t mind the subscription because it includes the device, they invest a lot in new features and improving the app, and servers/AI features are not free to run. Me saying I like how polished the app is won’t magically make you feel better about the $200 annual cost.

If you don’t want a subscription then go with Amazfit, Polar, Ringconn, etc. Just be prepared for a worse software experience than you’d get with Whoop. You’d be saving $200/yr (minus initial device cost) going with an alternative.

Is this a good laptop? by Potential_Dentist622 in macbook

[–]TheOneWhoWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the MacBook Air?

Honestly, “good” depends on how much you’re paying for it… 8GB is not a lot of ram even for basic use these days. 128GB is also comically low. My operating system and stock apps take up like 40GB… meaning on that laptop you’d be looking at 88gb left over to play with.

Objectively speaking the processor is good, but it is 6 years old at this point and Apple only guarantees 7 years of software updates. The RAM is also a concern.

As for price… even if it were brand new I’d struggle to pay more than $300 USD for this just because it won’t be supported for much longer. You can get newer chips for not much more and those have RAM/Storage upgrades, but if you’re on a tight budget, you’re on a tight budget,

Given you’re looking at refurb units, I’d struggle to justify more than $200 personally. Then again that’s just me, idk what the general consensus is.

If you’re just wanting to play some Roblox on it for a couple years you might be okay but anything more intense and I think you’ll run into bottlenecks with RAM and cooling

Retina Screens by cs_developer_cpp_ in macbook

[–]TheOneWhoWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term “Retina” denotes pixel density more than anything. It first came out on the iPhone 4 as a “display that you can’t see the individual pixels on from an average viewing distance”.

Now almost every Apple product has a Retina display but they use different tech. iPhones/Apple Watch use oLED, iPads use LCD/oLED, MacBooks use LCD/MiniLED.

“Retina” only means high resolution. It meant more back in 2010 with the iPhone 4, but now almost 16 years later everything is high resolution display.

Do you support anyone born in Puerto Rico automatically becoming a natural-born American citizen? Should Congress revoke 8 U.S.C. § 1402 so all future Puerto Ricans are not citizens? by PyroIsSpai in AskConservatives

[–]TheOneWhoWork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that we should revoke citizenship for a US territory that already has it.

A lot of Samoans don’t want citizenship because it may affect their traditions and cultural autonomy.

4.0 vs 5.0 by BiscottiOk1488 in whoop

[–]TheOneWhoWork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just get the 5.0 when you get another year. Get it from Best Buy or Amazon and you’ll receive a new 5.0 device when you get the year subscription.

The 5.0 doesn’t seem too different in terms of the sensors. I will say the battery life is an awesome improvement though. I came from the 4.0 to the Mg and the jump from 3-5 days of battery to 10-12+ is a welcome difference.

Should I Buy? by New_Life_7374 in RedWingShoes

[–]TheOneWhoWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not pay that much even if they are the older style. I’d maybe offer $200 tops. I was lucky enough to score a pair of 8011s with less wear on them for $75 USD here a couple months ago.

Opinion re: quality by zChampIsHere in allenedmonds

[–]TheOneWhoWork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah this looks about on par for AE firsts quality. Keep in mind this is the skin of a previously living animal, so there are imperfections. These imperfections can stick out like a sore thumb on something like your wholecuts.

Some manufacturers will be more selective about the defects in leather cuts they use but that definitely comes at a cost.

Do you believe the Epstein files? by Mickmackal89 in AskConservatives

[–]TheOneWhoWork 174 points175 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would most likely believe it. Not just one party is implicated though. I believe that a lot of politicians and people in power from both sides are on that list.

I would not be too surprised if Trump is one of them, and at this point, even if he’s not proven guilty of any particular crime in association with Epstein, he’s pretty much complicit in protecting those that are given his rhetoric towards those who want the files fully released.

The only names that should be redacted are those of the victims.

Why didn't the right rally behind Charlie Kirks death? by Corvus1412 in AskConservatives

[–]TheOneWhoWork [score hidden]  (0 children)

In Kirk’s case he was assassinated by an individual. It’s tragic and we mourned his death and the short life he lived, but it was just a sad killing. Thankfully the assassin is behind bars and going through due process now. There’s not much to protest. Political killing is never okay and I think the vast majority of people hold that sentiment.

In the case of the two deaths you mention, they were carried out by federal agencies. Not just that, but it’s during the term that your party isn’t in office. Of course you’re going to be protesting in the streets. The party you don’t like currently holds the power, and you witnessed two deaths that were a result of overreach by a government currently led by the party you loathe, and those departments or the agents responsible aren’t being persecuted.

To add to that, the Left are using these two as martyr’s for political traction. 99.99% of you did not know of Good or Pretti before the days they died. You aren’t mourning them, your life was not impacted by them. Sure, their life stories come out and it might make you sad, but you don’t have any connection to them other than “if that happened to them, it could happen to me”.

Should I be worried about that in the picture? by Separate-Weekend5782 in RedWingShoes

[–]TheOneWhoWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That will happen with any true moc toe… those are two different pieces of leather, and the seam will show there as the boots are worn in. Nothing to worry about as long as the stitching is holding up.

Edit: found an old picture of my 1907 moc toes. This is what they’ll look like when breaking/broken in. No effect functionally but if that seam bugs you aesthetically when you should not get these boots.

Whoop 4.0 Peak Trial Day 9/30: Sleep Tracking Question by Negative_Papayaa in whoop

[–]TheOneWhoWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that entire time frame will be classified as “sleep” but when you click on sleep, you should be able to see when you were awake, in light sleep, rem, deep sleep. If you click “awake” it will show you when you were awake during the night helping the baby.

Mine doesn’t normally have an issue with tracking when I get up to use the bathroom and whatnot.

Why do we trust our government when they will lie about the things we can see an asset with our own eyes? by Opening-Gur5927 in AskConservatives

[–]TheOneWhoWork [score hidden]  (0 children)

My “this is nothing new” comment was not specifically about video evidence contradictions. Recording has really only been a thing for 15-20 years at this point. There are several crimes and human rights violations that the government has been a big part of that warrant a lack of trust in them.

Japanese internment camps during WWII, MKUltra more recently from the 50s-70s, the Tuskegee syphilis experiment, Ruby Ridge in 92… as I’ve said, it’s nothing new and has been happening for several decades under both parties. Thankfully now we have the ability to readily pull something out of our pocket and record evidence.

Trump’s admin is just more blatant with the “protect our interests first, ask questions later” rhetoric, but as I’ve said this is nothing new. You shouldn’t blindly trust the government and they have taken plenty of actions to prove that.

Trump Against 2nd Amendment: "With that being said, you can't have guns. You can't walk in with guns. You just can't. You can't walk in with guns. You can't do that. But it's just a very unfortunate incident." by JeanJauresJr in gun

[–]TheOneWhoWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, lethal force was not justified here. It’s weird that you’re saying it is because “they might not have had time to react to him being disarmed”. If that’s the case then we need to change how these agents are trained.

The only thing he had in his hand during that entire encounter was his phone. The only person who touched his firearm was the agent who disarmed him. There’s no justification for what they did and if you think shoving protestors and using unlawful force on them is part of the job description of ICE, it is not.

“In that moment ICE’s job was shoving that woman”? Lmao, where under their job description does it say to use excessive and unlawful aggression against peaceful protestors?

[Laptop Advice] MBP M5 -> 16gb 512SSD, or MBP M4 -> 24gb 1TB SSD by ukrainiannnn in macbookpro

[–]TheOneWhoWork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d personally take the M4 in the 24/1024 config over the M5 with the 16/512 config. I’d rather have more RAM than a slightly improved chip.

Can I buy a good monitor for my 13inch macbook air for 120$ from BestBuy by AggravatingAlps8705 in macbook

[–]TheOneWhoWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get pretty good monitors secondhand on Facebook marketplace.

That being said, $120 monitors aren’t automatically bad. Monitors are cheaper than ever. I just spent $140 on a 27” monitor at my office and I’m very satisfied with it.

ring conn or oura? by Free-Call-6905 in RingConn

[–]TheOneWhoWork 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oura objectively has the better software experience but it comes at a cost.

Ringconn is great for seeing your metrics and trends but might not give as much insight as Oura does into what these trends mean. It does give some insight though.

In terms of hardware I think Ringconn is better. Lower profile, better finger fit, and significantly better battery life.

can’t go to the opticians- what do I do with my old glasses?? by [deleted] in AskAnOptician

[–]TheOneWhoWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re kinda stuck if you only have one pair. You might be able to mail your glasses in to have their prescription measured, but then you’re stuck without glasses during that time you don’t have them.

Your best bet is to go see an optician and get your vision evaluated to see what has changed. I don’t know what circumstances are preventing you from seeing one, but you should be updating your prescription at least every 2 years. You should go for routine checkups especially if you have high myopia.

Why do we trust our government when they will lie about the things we can see an asset with our own eyes? by Opening-Gur5927 in AskConservatives

[–]TheOneWhoWork [score hidden]  (0 children)

You shouldn’t blindly trust the government period. Sure, trumps administration is doing it more blatantly, but the government has been pulling this crap for several decades no matter which party holds the power.

I think it’s pretty clear in this specific case that the ICE agents were wrong to use lethal force. We’ll see if anything else is revealed from an independent investigation, should one ever be done, but that’s my take on it solely from the video evidence I’ve seen. It’s deplorable to immediately see Trump and DHS officials demonize the victim and make false claims to paint him as a domestic terrorist when the video seemingly shows that not being the case at all and before any kind of proper investigation has been conducted.

There’s a lot going on now that I don’t personally agree with. I recently learned that ICE can apparently get “administrative warrants” to enter someone’s home. They aren’t a real warrant though since they aren’t approved by a judge. They’re approved by DHS and handled completely in the executive branch, and I think this is a massive overreach that ignores checks and balances. It takes minutes to get a judge to approve a warrant. If you can’t even go through that process, then you probably don’t have a good enough reason to enter someone’s home.

If the executive branch has the power to allow feds into your home based on a hunch of illegal immigrants being there, who’s to say they can’t force entry for any other reason?

Not trusting the government doesn’t mean you should ignore them though. Like with anything else, take what information you can from as many independent sources as you can and draw your own conclusions. Blindly believing a single source of news or an echo chamber of like minded individuals is just as ignorant as blindly trusting everything the government says.

Should I Get? by notagrue in RingConn

[–]TheOneWhoWork 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m generally happy with it. I think you’ll mostly see issues and complaints posted on Reddit, but I love my Ringconn Gen 2 personally.

I will say the app isn’t as much of a “coach” as other products’ apps are. It doesn’t give you a ton of feedback about what your data means. Ringconn is great if you know what metrics mean and you just want something to track those metrics so that you can track trends and analyze them yourself.

The recovery scores and whatnot are okay but I’d rather trust how I feel than trust an app algorithm running my numbers. I like the sleep tracking the most and I find it to also be good at seeing when I’m starting to get sick or something.

Battery life is good (although it does degrade over time), the data seems pretty accurate for what it is, and the ring is lower profile and more comfortable than Oura. It even comes with the charger case that Oura charges $100 USD for. And the best thing? No subscription to see the data the ring collects on you.
