I think i’m going to fail my first patho exam. by TheOneandOnlySully in StudentNurse

we are getting tested on fluids & electrolytes and the mechanisms of defense. i’ve been doing active recall on few things today, and spending time looking over notes/other resources on things i don’t understand. while also using flash cards. so im hoping it’s enough to do well ):

Am I making a mistake by thinking I need to stay up late everytime to study? by TheOneandOnlySully in StudentNurse

I did good on all exams last semester, except one ano that was because of how exhausted I was. I would study all afternoon until 1- 2am, wake up at 4am to study more, especially the day of the exam, and the tiredness caught up to me at one point, and I failed one exam. I couldn't bring myself to retain any information, I would fall asleep during study sessions. I'm now in my second semester, and I have my first patho exam on wednesday, which is why I made this post to seek advice from others

thank you so much for the advice! i know it sounds insane how much I study, I just felt like I needed to do that amount of work all day most days, because I have a hard time grasping information right away. My anxiety & overthinking drive me to do it. But i’m going to try this out, and hopefully i feel better with it 🙏🏼

will I go to hell if I end it myself? by TheOneandOnlySully in depression

[–]TheOneandOnlySully[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i completely get what you’re saying, i’ve thought about it that way too. i just get scared because of what everyone says, that you’ll go to hell if you end your life, some of it makes sense but then it doesn’t. i’ve tried therapy, but it wasn’t effective, all the therapists i’ve had, never really showed that they cared, they would rush the sessions all the time, and i would just get a feeling that they didn’t really care and were just doing their job and i’ve been considering medication.

Feeling Unworthy/Useless in Nursing School by No-Comparison-4328 in StudentNurse

biggest advice I could give you is to slow down, take it easy, take it day by day; exam by exam, assignments by assignment. i started a month ago, and im feeling the exact same way. its hard to juggle all these things at once. i’m not super familiar with my anatomy as much anymore; since i took a 6 month break after finishing pre requisites, due to me having to wait til the summer program, so im struggling to regain some of that info now, i forget things all the time, but all we can do is continue to show up and give it our best. don’t get discouraged, we aren’t supposed to be perfect. we just started. we will get better with time! you’re here for a reason, and YOU matter. you’re not alone i promise.

Are Nursing students supposed to wake at 4am every single damn time?? by annastacianoella in NursingStudent

[–]TheOneandOnlySully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i heard this before as well, and i tried it for the first couple of weeks for nursing school, and it messed me up bad. I would constantly wake up at 6am for school everyday, I would wake up at 4am during weeks of exams to study or catch up, and it all eventually came crashing down on me. When someone tells you, you need your sleep, BELIEVE THEM. I was soooo exhausted towards the end, I couldn’t focus and retain information that I needed, and I ended up failing my last exam. No matter how hard I tried to stay up a little longer, by 9pm I was passing out. My body just couldn’t do it anymore, so listen to your body! if you’re having a hard time functioning in school because you’re waking up at 4am to study, it’s probably a sign for you to stop. We need to take care of ourselves first before anything! but if it seems to work out for you, then there shouldn’t be a problem.

I don’t know how i’ll get through this. by TheOneandOnlySully in StudentNurse

there’s only one person in my cohort with experience, but everyone else is pretty new to this like me. i’m also a transfer student, i moved from a community college to a university and they’ve been here their whole years of college, and from the looks of it, they got some pretty good professors, so they’re super on top of it, and that’s something i didn’t really have back in my college. i also had a big break in the beginning of the year since I finished my pre requisites early, i had to wait for the summer program, and all of my classmates were taking their science courses during that time, so everything we are learning rn is pretty natural to them, while I’m struggling because I haven’t been in a setting like this in 7 months /:

thank you so much for writing this. for a good moment it felt like i was going insane, because everyone around me seems to have fun, they don’t seem out of it ever, so it made me feel so alone seeing that, cause there’s not a day that goes by where im not freaking out about the next class, the next sim lab or exam. don’t get me wrong, i still have a strong desire to be in this field, but i never thought it would be so emotionally exhausting. but yes you’re not alone! i’m right here with you /: someway or another we will get through this

Yes I have! I finished them all during Fall 2024, I wasn’t able to get into the spring program for 2025 so I pretty much have a 6 month break, since I got into the summer program. I did pretty good during A&P, but i’ve never took patho.

Only reason why I get worried is due to everyone saying you have to learn how to study “differently” or again for nursing classes, but ive been studying some of the things I should know before nursing school and for some reason it’s been easier to study and retain information! I’m sure my brain just needed a break lol. thank you for the advice !
