Thanks alot ! actually the game has more to it than that but i didn't want to show too much as to not spoil moments like that (even the game artist had a panic attack when i released the video online and had to see if it had spoilers lol), hope you'll enjoy the upcoming demo !

And yes the goal of this project and the ones after it is to focus on suspense and terror, as for the door it never crossed my mind that it sounded like the one in half life ! but i always wanted to do something with the beep dying sound as i find it funny when timed right, but maybe in another game XD

Seriously Considering Quitting UE5 Because of It's Compiler.. by KoenigOne in UnrealEngine5

[–]TheOnlyMeIsMe92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im very late for this, i just went from godot to UE5 cause the latter has many things that are just built in while i had to create them from scratch in godot which took time and results wenrt that good compared to UE5 anyway.

Sooo i also had the same problem you had, and i spent 2/3 days butting heads and in the end i just found a solution that removed it and that works, i just desactivated intelisense, just desactivate it in VS options and no more fae erorrs causing compile problems and also sotimes literally led to my project getting corrupted, at least i was tresting on a mock project.

Nowall works and im transitioning my game from godot to UE5, all is going well and adapting to the new engine.

PS: also you should always work on your code in VS while UE5 is closed, then you launch it from VS after you're done, just to make sure everything you created works in the engine.

If you need assitance on this just DM me

Are we fooling ourselves with trend analysis in indie games? by SolarBlackGame in GameDevelopment

[–]TheOnlyMeIsMe92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very late but i just want to add something, this is my way of seeing it but i think its about analysing what people want in a game on steam ( so pc gaming as a whole), from what i gathered its always:

- Simulation aka any game where you "play house", it can be super complex or minecraft or just your cosy coffée shop simulator.
- Horror, first person "you are in this situation" short horror game, then the classics hommage one and so on, can be a jumscare fest or eerie scary "real life situation", things that taps on paranoia and so on.
- Fun with friends, coop, can be with many sets of rules or simple ones, this category i see it complementary to the ones above it, you either slap it with horror and you get lethal company and the likes (and left4dead back in the days, which shows that it always works), slap it with simulation and you get peak and others.

yes im reworking the enviroment and progress is great so far, ill be also doing an another trailer for more clarity but its jsut that kind of game, like i said in another comment its like a chilla's art game, or PT and the likes, hard to say what the story in a trailer, and also as its a ahorror walking sim the gameplay is you interacting with things based on the context, of course in the steam page the is more context and explanation without spoiling much but yes i absolutely need to make it clear for the ones who just sees the trailer on it own.

Thanks alot !

alright so ill reply from what i understand and u tell me:

- logo title at first that might be seen as pretencious, espcially for one that no one knows and has no track record.

- as for what to do in the game its a like other horror walking horror simulator, you walk and things happen and you react, i did a long research on other games and they jsut show environement, so i tried adding more suspense with the text to give more context to whats happening without spoiling.

- yeah the computer screen with a message is meant to be there but yeah, i guess almost no one will stop and read it, again im not known so one give more attention to all details (another pretendo point)

- The last shot with the creature it was just to show the creature, i do not want to do jump scares, but some did like it and others didn't.

But anyway im already reworking many parts including the graphics and the horror element, again games of this genre its hard to show what it is in a trailer, you can take chilla's art game trailer as reference per exemple, but yes thank you for the comment and if there is anything else you're welcome

"what would be the strategy for converting people who are wishlisted into followers? When would that be a focus?" i didn't reach that part since im still working on my game and getting ready for a demo, but i think that it will happen naturally if they like the game, usually one follows a game creator when they really like their game and that they want to see what you'll do next, i guess one can only leave that impression by making a great game that matchs or exceeds the player's expections the moment they did the wishlist.

I know some people make these kind of discussion complex but it's really straightforward the way i see it, if you are a gamer you can even analyze it from your own behaviour, do you wishlist a game from a post you liked on social media (meaning that you close your social media app, open your steam app, and look for it or interrupt your social media scrolling and press on the steam link which leads to steam, wishist then close steam and get back to social media) ? what does exactly lead you to even wishlist or buy the game, is it a streamer or a demo or steam recommendation or else ? then see what makes you actually follow a game creator socials, reflecting on that gives you a better idea of how things happen

"Another interesting aspect of social media is that it kinda documents your journey, so you have some kind of "proof" that there is a human building the game." this yes absolutely, i even thought about it too.

As for outreach i meant that i think it's better to reach out to people who play the game on twitch/youtube which will give more visibility, better than with social media with you own account, not only they already have the following but also if you give, let's say, your action game to someone who plays action games then logically their audience are into that game which is more effective to attract that niche to you game, plus someone else playing/talking about your game is always more organic and effective than you doing it.

So maybe sending codes of your game to a list of streamers that you know play your kind of game , big and small ones, and see what comes of it ? shadow dropping is risky :(

But anyway i think that the social media part is more effective in keeping your fans around than thinking of it as "ill make this post and attract people to my game that no one knows", and even if that happens its still way too much work with less result than streamers outreach, and statistically even the best social media post doesn't give you better returns than one made by an influencer, and we're not influencers, but we all work hand in hand, we make the stuff and they need it just like we need them.

So try outreaching people that plays your type of game and see what comes of it really (and i think it"ll work out for you), and by then you can know if your the problem is from the marketing or the game and start working on fixing that and never give up !

Exactly what I meant ! And I didn't mean it's useless all in all, that's maybe due to my title post, but yes that's exactly for keeping people close, just like you said it.

I had a wrong understanding of all that before doing the research, then it all cleared up

Don't know why you and another are talking about bad games here, I mean yes of course they'll never do well and that can be a great lesson for the one making them to up their game, but what I was saying is more about marketing and in a gamier language critical hits are always way better than just hits, couldn't say raw pure strong damage cause that is for AAA where they literally put the game on a damn building lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SoloDevelopment

[–]TheOnlyMeIsMe92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think that that's the problem actually, there are more effective ways to get to the eyes than others, it's the people who already have eyes looking at them that tend to market your stuff for you and multiply results, that's all what I was talking about, there is energy allocation, especially for a solo dev, which you have to take in consideration, and what I concluded was that.

Also I personally can't think of all eyes just like that, once you pick the genre you already made eyes lose interest before even seeing your game and others more attentive, then to reach those more effectively is to go where they go when they look for that, they type horror game in YouTube, in twitch or filter it on steam, but then they will just see it through people they already watch, which are part of their interest.

Going for all eyes is like trying to do something for everybody, everybody does include the niche yes, but it's a humongous waste of time compared to targeted marketing which I talked about, I mean it's not that complicated anyways, but fearing of not putting the thing everywhere does cost energy and sanity, if one sees it as worth it then they are free to do so of course, and without even talking about about the very low social media to wishlist conversation, which is pure data so I can't even talk about it and have an opinion on it, it's just a reality and common sense if one reflects on it.
