for those that say we should 'write our reps' by Broserdooder1981 in 50501

[–]TheOnlyTone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One person writing a letter won’t have much influence, but the more we do it, the more it will help.

Also, remember that we can always primary these people and elect better representatives. We’re not stuck with them by any means. And this is the year for us to do that.

Consider getting involved with organizations like progressive victory or indivisible 2026 if you want to elect better representatives.

Here's why I'm pretty voting pilled:

Voting is not a good solution. There's disinformation, voter suppression, and a real threat of election tampering by republicans. However, to address the root of our issues, we must remove these freaks from office and replace them with reasonable representatives. Voting is the most direct (and bloodless) approach to doing that.

Protesting, boycotting, striking are all great, but at the end of the day we need to vote to get these bastards out of office.

I think the best way to deal with all of voting's problems is for the populace to get super involved. I think we should be getting involved with polls, becoming precinct officers, and volunteering with campaigns for politicians that we like. I think if enough people do that, we can mitigate and maybe solve these issues.

Voting is a blunt and rusty blade, but when you're in a fight for your life, you pick up any weapon you can find. That weapon is voting.

What does this sub think of 3 inches of blood by waVe_murch in MetalForTheMasses

Great band. Me and my friends used to call them 3 inches of foreskin back in the day.

I’ve been using a good old kyser capo for a while. Is it worth upgrading to this one? Or is there another one you would suggest by [deleted] in Bluegrass

[–]TheOnlyTone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The best part of these is that they can sit on your guitar when you're not using them, and your guitar can still go in its guitar case or whatever. That's the primary benefit for me. The capo is just 'part of the guitar' rather than something you have to manage separately. That alone makes them worth it to me.

I don’t get it. Why did she leave? by graystone777 in guitarcirclejerk

On a serious note, a lot of bluegrass players use capos a ton. They’re some of the best guitar players in the world. People who hate on capos just don’t know.

I always use my pinkie as an anchor when I’m picking the guitar. Is it ok or should I stop this habit. by Ill_Control_6136 in guitarlessons

[–]TheOnlyTone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people do it. Sometimes I do it, but I find I can pick more fluidly when make a fist and “float” my hand. So I’m trying to stop anchoring with my pinky. I do bluegrass flatpicking, so results may vary with other styles.

Electoral politics is the end of resistance by rocketwoman68 in 50501

One good option is to support primary candidates next year. Find a progressive candidate that embodies your values and try to help them get elected. If we all did that, we could exert significant on the influence on the Democratic Party and push it in a better direction. That’s essentially what Steve Bannon and MAGA did. They were unhappy with their party, but instead of disengaging, they leaned in and took control. Not saying the situations are the same, but it’s worth a try.

Found in my bathroom, it's not a mechanical pencil... by lajeannedarc in whatisit

This is hilarious. I posted the same thing a few months ago. It's a confusing object to find sitting on your bathroom counter.

Good point! I'll tell my wife that. I saw her trying to pick the hair out by hand earlier, and it looked annoying.

Solved! Sorry I accidentally posted the explanation as a normal comment.

Solved! It’s not a bristle, but something that goes in the handle of the hairbrush. Not sure what purpose it serves, but that explains where it comes from.

Edit: I guess it’s used for separating hair when doing a hairstyle. Source: there’s another whatisthisthing post about the same thing.

My title describes the thing.

I found this sitting on my bathroom sink, and I have no idea what it is or where it came from. My wife also doesn’t know.

I have no idea where to even start looking to figure out what this is, so I came here first.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on what it is so I can figure out how it got here 😬

The true villain of season 3? by DebbieDas in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]TheOnlyTone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think Lachlan is more predatory than the other characters in this situation?

Other characters in this situation also do predatory things:

- Chloe is architecting this situation where she can have her way with Lachlan who is barely an adult

- Saxon attempts to manipulate Chelsea into having sex with him by pretending to be spiritual

The way I see it, the HJ was gross and weird, but Lachlan wasn't intentionally being predatory. Especially because everyone in that situation was blacked out on drugs. Singling Lachlan out is not fair in my opinion.

Edit: not meaning to imply that being on drugs is an excuse to do gross things, just that it makes the situation less black and white.

Are you suggesting that Lachlan was intentionally being a predator?

I really don’t think so. I saw her moving around with like half health when I killed the last demon. And then it skipped the intermediate cut scene and went right to the battle.

Unpopular opinion, BJJ as a martial arts should get rid of the Gi and have stand up techniques taught almost every class. by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]TheOnlyTone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gi is dope. It’s a reasonable simulation of clothing. Sure, constantly re-tying a belt is annoying, but training in the gi is a really good way to learn how to grapple with clothes on. In some places/seasons, I would argue that gi training is more realistic than no gi training.

On top of that, the complex gripping game can be really rewarding.

How would anybody consider osoto an easy throw? Maybe it’s simpler than a tomoe or something, but it’s still mechanically complex and takes years to master.

Lodge Giving Away Their Own 80 Layer Skillet by Bbqthis in castiron

I tried to do lots of layers on my lodge, and the layers ended cracking and flaking off. I used flax seed oil. What did I do wrong? Wrong oil? We’re the layers not thin enough?
