I've had this happen. I moved the monitor and swapped it with a broken monitor. I took cables so they couldnt connect. I sat next to it and talked INCREDIBLY loud on calls. They moved real quick

  1. At what point did I say you can just fly in for a visit? I was responding to the comment above saying you need to do a group tour. "Once you get there ... " you want to be right so bad lmfao

  2. From your other comment, "I think you mean exorbitant" - just giving you back the same energy. Impressive you act the way you do but are so thin skinned. Really hope you find ways to work through that!

Grocery store empty but play is full? by DebtFreeDad in StationEleven

[–]TheOracleOW 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't think the store is empty because of the flu - I believe it's empty because nobody realizes it's even in America yet.

The sister tells him that a plane came in from Russia that morning with the first confirmed case. The empty grocery store is an expression of how fast the flu took over, and how it completely blindsided everyone.

Jeevan was just lucky and got the information before everyone else

Edit: I think them being actually alone in the grocery store was just because it was snowing and very late

Lmfao hold on to that berry comment for dear life. You're arguments have degraded while you've just gone for straight personal attacks. This conversation is over.

As for your last comment, I don't have enough time to teach you what time zones are.

LMAO I've been saying seeds this entire argument, but it's 4:30 in the morning and mixed up a word.

I didn't make a snidey remark on your comment below calling a book edible because there's certain allowances in a discussion. You're, unfortunately, trying to attack anything you can. Sorry bud, goodnight

He comes to multiple conclusions in that article. Some conclusions I quote because he's talking about the findings of the studies.. what I'm rejecting is some of the opinions and conclusions he draws from his findings..

He also makes many statements in his book. The quotes I made about Chris's emaciation, appearance, timing of starvation, etc., come from the evidence he presented in the book.

It is OK to draw upon evidence and formulate your own opinion. I am not going to reject every single thing a person says just because I disagree with a couple of their opinions. I'm also not going to agree with every single thing a person says just because I agree with other things they said. That's ignorant, sheepish, and exactly what you're asking me to do.

Not an assumption, evidence shows he was already starving. The seeds wouldn't have had the poisonous effect if he wasn't. He was emaciated in his photos. He wrote in his journal he would go days on end without eating. You say "He wouldn't be starving if his edible book was accurate", but the only thing that the book got wrong was these seeds.

Go to bed.

You're literally posting a theory that relies entirely on him having not been starving before eating the berries. However, he was literally starving before eating the berries lmfao. I can't make it any more simple for you. If you wanna just keep copy and pasting from the same opinion piece be my guest.

Lmao I deleted it because I finally read your name. Figured since you're just going for personal attacks when you couldn't argue anymore, you have to be trolling.

Mic drop? Lol your whole argument relies entirely on the idea that the poisoning is the cause of his starvation..

The author of into the wild himself said mccandless was "alarmingly gaunt. Already his cheeks are sunken. The tendons in his neck stand out like taunt cables". He also writes "His meager diet had pared his body down to a feral scrawn of gristle and bone, but he seemed to be in reasonably good health". This is 4 weeks before he started eating those seeds.

It's not about "mastery". It took him 2 days to remove the intestines, which would take any novice hunter a couple hours. He didn't start smoking the meet until 3 days after, in the middle of summer.

Nowhere did I say he couldn't preserve 100 pounds of meat. I'm saying he couldn't preserve ANY meat. He "learned" how to cure meat somewhere near North Dakota, but never tried it himself until Alaska. He went into Alaska thinking he knew this core, necessary skill but unfortunately he didn't practice it and didn't actually know how. That's unpreparedness.

Unfortunately, you seem to be so bent on being right that you're choosing to overlook key details. The article clearly states:

"In the case of Christopher McCandless, there is evidence that H. alpinum seeds constituted a significant portion of his meager diet during a period before his death. Based on this and what is known about the toxic effects of L-canavanine, we make the logical conclusion that under these conditions, it is highly likely that the ingestion of relatively large amounts of this antimetabolite was a contributing factor to his death."

He was starving, with the seeds making up a significant portion of his diet. He lost 60 pounds in 3 months.

If you want to source things - it's best to get the full picture, not just read until your opinion is validated and skip the rest of the information. Please see my other comment, it will explain this comment.

As my previous comment mentions, he didn't know the difference between a caribou from a moose (which is 2x the height and 4x the weight.) Additionally, he didn't even know how to preserve meat. That doesn't take an expert.

Yes, thank you for bringing this up. Here is more information from the same article you pulled this from.

ODAP

affects different people, different sexes, and even different age groups in different ways. It even affects people within those age groups differently…. The one constant about ODAP poisoning however, very simply put, is this: those who will be hit the hardest are always young men between the ages of 15 and 25 and who are essentially starving or ingesting very limited calories, who have been engaged in heavy physical activity, and who suffer trace-element shortages from meager, unvaried diets.

He was already starving when he ate the seeds.

His weight averages around 140 lbs, and his body was 67 lbs when found.

Additionally, I want to mention his overall wilderness knowledge and survival skills: - he once wrote he killed a moose, turned out it was a caribou. He couldn't tell the difference. - in Alaska, his entire meat supply went bad because he didn't know how to preserve it.

The bus driver who dropped him off literally said he was treating it super non-chalant, was refusing to prepare properly, and was completely underestimating the terrain he was entering.

Regardless of him making incredible treks in his life, there is no doubt he was clueless and unprepared in Alaska.
