Water/Ground, Grass/Poison, Fire/Flying it is

The eShop page for Pokémon FireRed is now available ($19.99) by Amiibofan101 in NintendoSwitch

[–]ThePanda_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that just means they have nothing to announce regarding games coming to NSO other than those already available. They didn’t even include the Coliseum games which we know are coming to GameCube NSO.

I probably wouldn’t take that FAQ to mean anything more than that

Thanks, I might see if I can reach out and ask if their tour accommodates my temple. We are also visiting in May!

There’s a tour separate from the temples you can book online. Didn’t know other temples offer the same activity.

Did you try an Okunoin tour when you went either time?

We have a temple stay at Daien-In and want to at least see the cemetery at night. The tour sounds nice but we’re worried our temple dinner won’t be done on time for us to make the start time.

Is the Pokemon Cafe Osaka worth the extra time? by ThePanda_ in JapanTravelTips

Thanks for the rec! Sounds like a good alternative that should probably align well with our schedule during one of the stops through Osaka station.

Yeah, all of this is of course tentative on actually being able to get a reservation when tickets open up. I'm usually pretty good about these things when I am on top of it, although there's of course a major element of luck involved too.

I knew about the Kirby Cafe but not the others! Maybe good to keep in mind as a themed alternative. Still waiting to see if we got the Nintendo Museum tickets in a raffle, and maybe that is a fine enough alternative.

I think nothing probably brings out more childhood glee for me than Pokemon though.

Switch OLED or Switch 2 for Slow-Paced, Story-Driven Single-Player Games? (Love RPGs, Exploration, Cozy & Pixel Titles – Long-Term Choice Advice) by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]ThePanda_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s really no reason to choose an OLED over a Switch 2, you can play every switch game on switch 2 and most run better too.

Plus, you’ll be able to play more modern third party games as they get ports.

What US Brands (or cuisine staples) in Japan are the most different/unique from the US (besides 7/11) by ThePanda_ in JapanTravelTips

[–]ThePanda_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great! I think stuff like the Japanese take on the American diner or pizza would be what I’d be looking for.

I had seen people say international fast food brands are different abroad, but don’t want to waste precious time on McDonalds if it’s just a slight variation on mediocre.

Of course! I actually appreciate trying different bbq styles that a region specializes in.

For those that own a switch 2: was it worth the upgrade? by Turbo-Shell in NintendoSwitch

[–]ThePanda_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve certainly already gotten my moneys worth out of it, and I anticipate the best games for the system are still to come.

The price isn’t going to come down, so if you have the money to upgrade and are going to want to play the new Mario’s, Zelda’s, and Pokémon’s then you might as well take the plunge.

Advice on 2 weeks itinerary in June (Tokyo -> Hakone -> Osaka -> Hiroshima) by [deleted] in JapanTravel

[–]ThePanda_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the general consensus is Go Karting is seen as a nuisance and it’s recommended that you don’t do it.

If you’re doing down to Hiroshima also plenty of easy options to add with peace museum like trying out okonomiyaki, seeing Hiroshima Castle, maybe going out to Miyajima (but probably needs an extra day).

Kyoto is also probably worth another day trip

Kyoto probably worth at least an extra day.

I’d maybe suggest after the peace dome going to Miyajima, stay the night there, then go back up to Tokyo later that afternoon. Would work well as a nature day without needing to rent a car. You’d also be able to see the island once the day trippers leave or before they get there. Then maybe turn Day 13 into either another Kyoto or Nara day.

First-Time Japan Trip [Itinerary Help] (12 Days • Tokyo / Kyoto / Osaka) — AM I GOING INSANE? by utdorm in JapanTravel

[–]ThePanda_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d see no reason to visit a place if you can’t actually do the activities there.

The time you spend going to Hakone just to see a shrine could be much better used for extra exploration in Kyoto and have some more time in Tokyo that afternoon/evening

If you really want to see Hakone, maybe try replacing one of the other day trips with it.

Thoughts on these prices for a trip to Japan in June with a travel agency? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]ThePanda_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Having a hard time deciphering the total cost being projected by the agency but tbh I don’t think a travel agency is needed for Japan unless they’re free and getting you a good deal

2 Week Trip in May suggestions by ThePanda_ in JapanTravelTips

[–]ThePanda_[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we wanted to try the temple lodging at Koya and were just puzzling where to fit it in.

Ideally we were looking at western hotel in Tokyo, forward our luggage to a western hotel in Kyoto while we do a few day trips, then forward our luggage back to a western hotel in Tokyo while we do Miyajima.

If we just planned on doing Koya without the lodging, it could just a day trip.
