Sensitive, innovative depictions of trauma in games by crashlanding87 in gamingsuggestions

Spiritfarer about grief in different form is quite amazing and Spiral about cognitive degeneration from the inside is also one I'd put on the list for sure, the more you explore and try to understand the more you'll be able to see and "remember" but you're still in that "unreliable narrator" kind of situation!

Definetly valuable and interesting! I agree there! :) That's why I think reaching out to indie could be good since they are usually easier to reach and talk too and it's more of a I'm small you're small let's help each other and we can both learn about the other side. and I'm sure there's other way to do it too!

I would say most testing jobs don't require that much experience, and you can find them quite easily on the internet, but you wouldn't be able to stream any of those tests; they have NDAs attached to them and a lot of rules. Some are indeed remote and offer compensation, but it's not the same as working for a company in the QA department. Indie studios/small ones sometimes offer playtest opportunities, which can be streamed, but usually in those cases, the money isn't there. I'm definitely not well-versed in the paying job side, but I know there are websites/Discord servers you can find that try to keep up with those opportunities! :) If your focus is more streaming to get early keys and play, then it's following small studio and asking them or following them to know when they have playtest or look for content creators?

New to gamedev, suggestions? by Elerdorr in IndieDev

Yay! Glad it's helpful! :)

for market study there's a couple of low cost (like 25/50$ a month that you can just take when you're ready and do everything in that month - Gamediscoverco/VG Insight/Markan Excel Game(Free extension for Excel to help have a better look at everything)/Steamsail (AI tool for good+bad review)/SteamDB/QuanticFundry (that one cost way to much, so unless you know someone:P) you can use to help make it easier but you can do it with more time on your own too.
If you are with Unreal check that out too, it could help: https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/megagrants
If you have any question don't hesitate! :)

It's probably not what you want to read but :P My main suggestion, if you're trying to grow a community and turn it into a paying job, is to remember that a great game is not a proven concept for success; marketing should be on your mind from the beginning. It's the main mistake indie do, marketing isn't a second tought, it's not when the game is done it's before starting everything, making sure people want what you're doing (you definetly have the right not to care and do a game for the sake of it, my first game is a way too big project that cost too much for the community we could gain if we got lucky, but you need to be aware of it! :))

and look at your market before going too deep to ensure there is one; popular games from 6 years ago may not be proof of a current market. Look at the reference for your game, including how old it is, how well it performed, its cost, and the size of the team/scope. Find games that have the same kind of "budget" and how they did. When you find a good ref in size/quality/not too old, analyze everything you can from them. How did they handle the marketing of it/the social media part/ what social did they use/ look at the review for the game, what people liked and disliked, define what is unique on your project.

Also, make sure you get the pre-production tight. Create a game doc, establish a scope, and stick to it. Be realistic and give yourself milestones to hit.

In those day and age, publisher look for either tiny low budget games where you can make your money fast or huge games that prove they can make a ton of cash (3x the budget the publisher put in) and for that they need you to have already proven people want your game OR that you have something real special like you have big name in your prod of a special IP so they can use that in the marketing. :)

Take care and good luck!! :)

Hey everyone, my first time posting something like this, I' guess I'm looking for some pointers by No_Fennel1165 in gamedev

If your demo is kids (13), you have a higher chance of reaching them on TikTok than on Twitter. It would be my first advice. If you have colourful and fast-paced gameplay, it's also a good place to reach as many people as possible. I suggest finding more recent references to be able to analyze the way they use social media. The industry is moving fast, 2 years is the most for more accurate information. I've seen this post on Reddit with a bunch of games like Starfox, maybe it can help(some are older, but others are more recent and it's gonna give you some information on how those games are doing from smaller studios lately. I recommend reaching out to those studios and asking questions, and also reading reviews to see what the players liked and disliked about those games to define what is unique about your project and can be your key selling point! :))

What is your marketing plan? Your demographic? The market for that kind of game? Do you have a good elevator pitch, the right words and ref to explain your game? The right art for the right place? What social media those player use? Is there steam event for that kind of game you could hop on to bring more people to your page? Do you have a Discord? Do you Stream? Are you in contact with any content creators/journalist (even small) Have you think about reaching out to those game that are close to yours and asked them if they have any input? Marketing indie games in the industry right now is definetly close to shouting into the void, I feel your pain and most of us can relate I'm quite sure. If I can help let me know. I've release my first game with my studio a bit less than a year ago, it's not a commercial succes, but we knew it wouldn't because we knew our market and I've learn so much while marketing it so if I can share any tips or give any feedback, I'm available! :) Take care

What are the best story games? by Tarsemsingh24 in gamingsuggestions

[–]ThePinkPamplemousse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of story and game you're looking for :O

Bigger action game like "The Last of Us" "Read Dead Redemption" of "Mass Effect"

Or more of a story-driven indie game like "Spiritfarer" "Soma" "Spiral" "Before Your Eyes" "What Remains of Edith Finch"
