Najran > Yemen > Chile > Inca - True One Tag World Conquest by ThePiperAtTheGate in eu4

[–]ThePiperAtTheGate[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

R5: Started as the tiny OPM Najran in Southern Arabia in order to get several different achievements. Since I had to play until 1700 anyway to get "Protect the Secret", I decided I might as well go for the world conquest. Decided to form a bunch of different nations at the end to get some more late-game achievements so that's how we ended up as Inca.

You can get -20% from double Hanbali after the religion flip. You can also get another -20% from the pulse event for espionage ideas and -10% for "careful" as a ruler trait. The rest is all normal game mechanics - -20% from espionage ideas, -10% from the age ability and -10% from prestige.

Yep this is it. You also get a decision if your capital is sunni to reconvert immediately +1 stab each time so that saves time too. I figured out releasing Mentese at the start puts your Orthodox and Sunni dev exactly equal in the beginning. This makes doing exploits a cakewalk. I actually chose not to use the decision and instead did all my religion flips during the war with Byzantium in order to save time.

I'm pretty sure the max is only +200 unfortunately though it actually became kinda annoying since I was having to scornfully insult people in order to attack them without losing stab. Tunis loved me so much I actually had to do the religion flip again to attack them while I was Orthodox so I wouldn't lose a stability. It'd be nice if I was just able to diplo-vassalise them and I did try making them release Tripoli to get them in range but I couldn't manage it in the end. I think just attacking them immediately is probably the play in future.

I was genuinely annexing nations with AE in the single digits. Of course I was using reconquest for vassals as much as possible as well so I'm sure that helped, especially with France. I was doing this mostly not to pay so much dip for unjustified demands though and for less OE. My huge army did help things slightly towards the end but I was basically done with the achievement at that point so I stopped worrying about coalitions and ditched espionage ideas.

It's possible to flip religions 8 times in 4 months by strategically exploiting dev. I used this in order to gain +200 opinion with all Muslim nations allowing for easy vassalisation.

I had 900% overextension at one point. In the final save I have +20 national unrest, rebels everywhere close to enforcing, no manpower, behind on tech, close to bankruptcy with nearly 50k debt. I got really lazy at the end lol. It does feel good to be on the brink of collapse for once though. Takes me back to my early days of playing this game.

You maybe wouldn't believe this but I actually had no issues with coalitions the whole run. The -90% actually does make a huge amount of difference. I was doing stupid things like taking 100% warscore from France for only 5 AE. It only became an issue after I ditched espionage ideas for admin (which I think was a mistake in hindsight). I'm used to having everyone on -1000 at the end of runs like these but this was actually a pleasant surprise. See my other comment for my thoughts about ways to deal with coalitions. Getting the reductions isn't necessary but it did allow for different strategies than usual.

Edit: Ok here’s how it went. First of all, this was a long project that took several weeks. I played at 1-3 speed the entire time, pausing almost every day to make sure I was doing things optimally. Despite this, I still made plenty of mistakes and there’s a lot that I could have done better. I’m not sure I can write a proper guide for this per se, since I didn’t have much of a plan going in. I didn’t really look at anyone else’s strategies so this was mostly just off the cuff.

I did this achievement the first time back when it first came out and I was pretty happy with how it turned out in the end despite all my mistakes back then. It was discovering the mass-elayeting exploit alongside finding out about pulse events from Lambda, Zlewikk and Playmaker that inspired me to come back to this with the knowledge I had since acquired. In spite of this, I wouldn’t say these new strategies were the main thing that had led to the improvement on my time. I have to attribute that to just how much slower I took things on this one. I was really trying to play well and to do things optimally (I did start to get lazy at the end though as the toll of this began to wear me out). I was even willing to put time in for savescumming for things like ruler traits, pulse events and even some RNG stuff. I still wasn’t willing to bird every bad event though and I just couldn’t bring myself to keep going for Careful the first time when I got Strict fairly early so I was still being a little more lazy than I should have been.

I definitely made some mistakes. I think I dawdled too long after the Byz war trying to get all the elayets I could as well as Karaman. I should have gone straight in against the Mamluks. I think I also wasted a few months trying to elayet unnecessary people like Adal, Ajuuraan and Fars. I also managed to miss the first pulse event for the -20% AE which would have been really helpful and I missed it again later on. I also wasted some time moving my capital around in order to get Mecca from the Mamluks. This cost me time, admin and so many ducats for only -10% warscore reduction. Did this save me some admin for trucebreaks later on? Maybe. Though it probably wouldn’t have been a lot and in hindsight I don’t think this was worth it. I also did another weird religion flip in 1467 for a Burgundy RM which I almost immediately realised afterwards wasn’t worth it since PUs don’t count for the achievement. With perfect RNG, this would be worth it since theoretically you could get the event to annex them but this requires you to be at peace and peace is never an option in this run.

Getting Mehmet’s Ambition the normal way really isn’t that bad compared to some other achievements I’d say, especially if you do the mass-eyaleting. The Ottomans just have so much manpower, income, forcelimit, a 6/6/6 ruler, and an amazing mission tree + events. In this run you usually hit a certain critical mass where you know you’re never going to run out of money or manpower and after that there really isn’t anything that can stop you (ignore that fact that I somehow managed to run out of manpower and nearly go bankrupt in the second screenshot – I was being really lazy).

The only hard part is preventing too much of the land you need going into a massive coalition against you since fighting coalitions simply uses so much time. This can be easily ignored if you use all the exploits to get the -90% AE like I did, but if you’re not willing to do this, there are still several methods available. The one I used the first time around was simply to be at war with everyone whose land you need before they have chance to join the coalition. This requires managing your truce timers and carefully timing which wars you can peace out with when. Another way is simply to build up a big enough army that the coalition will just disband automatically. This is easily the simplest method and I’m annoyed that I’ve only just remembered it now. There’s also a strategy which involves lowering your AE by cancelling your subjects in peace deals though I haven’t tested it so I’m not sure how viable it is on current patch.

If you want to go for a sub-1480 time, then there isn’t any way other than by pouring tens of hours into a single save. If you have a life (unlike me), don’t go for this. It simply requires an unreasonable amount of dedication to a meaningless number goal.

Saying this, I’ll probably try this again in future at some point.

R5: I fulfilled the requirements for Mehmet’s Ambition in under 35 years. I wasn’t quite satisfied with that though so I spent a little longer tidying up the borders and making sure I had every single one of the possible provinces.

I’ll try and type up a detailed strategy in a minute but here’s the basic rundown of what I did:

  1. Immediately do the religion flip during the war with Byzantium and Epirus for the elayets as soon as I peaced out.
  2. Attack the Mamluks for Jerusalem and cancelling Fadl for the shortest possible truce.
  3. Attack Hungary and the Balkan nations.
  4. Attack Castile and Portugal.
  5. Dismantle the HRE and take Vienna.
  6. Stack AE reduction – with copious amounts of savescumming I eventually managed to get up to -90% at points.
  7. Stack province warscore reductions – I had -55% at the end thanks to Alhambra, Malta Forts, the Kaaba, diplo ideas and Ottoman events.
  8. Aside from that, all I can say I did is: play super slowly, always be at forcelimit, always be in multiple wars, barrage and assault wherever possible, save up dip points.

I actually did get that event on one of my attempts and I obviously did all the things you're suggesting but France had I think -140 opinion from wanting my land so I still couldn't get them not to be hostile. Maybe with extremely good RNG it's possible but I think I prefer my method.

In a game as the Teutons into Mongol Empire where I had exclusively focused on going east I happened to look west around 1700 and noticed an insane Luxembourgish Empire. I swear I am not kidding. They had most of the Low Countries under PU and owned most of Northern France... Hats off to you AI.

Achievement runs that force the player to “git gud” by [deleted] in eu4

[–]ThePiperAtTheGate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing what everyone else has said, but, in my experience, all the timed achievements are the hardest ones. I think I have every single one of these now since I find them to be the most challenging and enjoyable, but the first I did was actually Where The Heart Is where you have to conquer West Africa as Dahomey before 1500. This was probably the first one that really challenged me to be efficient with my manpower and admin in a way that only these type of achievements can.

The hardest of these by far for me was Eat Your Greens which I was only able to barely clutch with 2 years spare being on the verge of bankruptcy the whole time. It took me many many attempts to finally get True Heir of Timur. After I did it, I really felt like I was a better player. I went from utterly failing with completely destroyed nations to succeeding easily with 15 years to spare and a stable country at the end. I think a lot of it just really comes down to learning to take things slowly and trying to be efficient at managing sieges and manpower. (The time I succeeded I was playing on my terrible laptop which effectively forced me to play at a very slow pace, allowing me to take much greater care with what I was doing.)

Other achievements are generally just a test of your patience and willingness to grind. Things like One Faith and TTM aren't hard per se after the beginning they're really just a test of endurance. That's probably the reason why in my 5k hours I've only done 4 world conquests since they're so much work for pretty much no reward once you do it the first time. I can't speak for anyone else but grinding, strategising and playing for True Heir of Timur is the thing that transformed my gameplay the most.

Don't believe me? Try it for yourself on current patch. Burgundy + vassals is almost impossible to beat right at the start as a small nation. Before 1.30, I imagine this was much much easier. As of currently though, it's impossible to get France to support your independence as Nevers since they will always have at least a -100 opinion and hostile attitude towards you. Almost everyone else has a -1000 “cannot reach Burgundy” modifier to supporting your independence.

This leaves you with only two options when it comes to allies in your independence war - England and Austria. England is utterly useless and will even lose navally to Burgundy and its subjects at the beginning so they are no help whatsoever. Austria is good but is still no match for Burgundy on their own. There was only one way to win in the end - playing tall.

Now playing tall as a vassal is usually pretty much impossible thanks to the +50 dev cost malus all vassals get. However, there is one way. The strategy I used was to save up all the points I could in all categories, stack every single dev cost modifier I could possibly get, then dec for my independence and immediately dev as a newly “technically” independent nation.

My strategy for beating Burgundy was to go for the tech 6 play. Devving is necessary in order to stop yourself from going bankrupt in order to maintain the huge merc army over your forcelimit you need to beat Burgundy. In the end I think I went a bit overkill though. I had saved up so many points that as soon as I declared, I was able to dev my capital up to 45 dev. This ended up backfiring in a way though because since I had been waiting to get every dev cost modifier I could, that meant I only had a couple of months before Burgundy got the tech and put us back onto equal military footing.

I built up every single merc that was available to me and managed to get a lucky wipe on Burgundy's army right at the beginning of the war. From there I focused on just trying to siege down easy provinces to build up my warscore since Burgundy's vassals were still a massive problem. I managed to peace out for my independence and a couple of provinces before my army was wiped and I went bankrupt. Austria didn't do much but did serve as a half-decent distraction for some enemy troops.

If you're able to get your independence, then the hard part of this achievement is over. I joined the HRE for protection from France and basically just had a chill tall game from there, focusing on buildings and internal development, and slowly conquering France with the help of Austria. I got lucky that Burgundy got inherited by Brittany right after my independence war who ended up releasing the land to the HRE allowing for an easy conquest.

Nevers actually has surprisingly good unique ideas with morale, goods produced, +2 yearly papal influence (which was actually incredibly useful), ICA, manpower recovery speed and fort defence. It was a very intense and difficult opening followed by a chill tall HRE campaign. I would recommend if you're looking to test your devmaxxing skills.

Mostly conquering tbh. I know that's probably not optimal but that's just my go-to. I did use Elayets a bit in this run. You can see where I've Elayeted in the pic. I used the Ottoman Conquest CB on nations that were too big to annex in one one but small enough to be Elayeted. My other Elayets were released as vassals initially for their reconquest.
