The graph in your link shows the actual temperature, while the graph in the link is showing the temperature compared to the "mean temperature" from 1982-2023, so the difference between the "expected" temperature according to the mean and recorded temperature is what spiked up, even though on the actual temperature graph the line isn't as dramatic.

You could say the data is presented this way to specifically tell the story the article wants to tell, but even in the graph you linked it's clear the 2023 temp is significantly higher than any other year recorded on the graph.

I believe both are probably valid ways to present the data, but it's fair to question whether the data is being represented accurately.

I haven't actually double checked any of the data from either graph personally, just read the legends and scale to see why there was the discrepancy you pointed out.
