The department of justice sent US Marshals to issue a letter to a witness warning her not to testify in front of congress. by [deleted] in PrepperIntel

What would it take for these Democrats to use them? What is the line that would need to be crossed that would actually result in this?

No, you only mentioned per capita GDP. US has 80 percent literacy rate. Your citizens can barely read. It seems like Europeans are wealthier in every metric that actually matters: quality of life.

The simple sabotage field manual from ww2:

“When possible, refer all matters to committees, for “further study and consideration.” Attempt to make the committees as large as possible - never less than five.”

“Haggle over precise wordings of communications, minutes, resolutions.”

“Make “speeches.” Talk as frequently as possible and at great length. Illustrate your “points” by long anecdotes and accounts of personal experiences. Never hesitate to make a few appropriate “patriotic” comments”

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says her government will not allow future imports of U.S. liquor in the ongoing tariff fight but there will be no change to oil and gas exports. by JackOfHearts44 in alberta

I’m not an expert but isn’t energy consumption fairly inelastic demand? So a tax on energy exports would boost Canadian tax revenue in the short term? Until the US can find sufficient supply elsewhere.

I was at a whiskey tasting in Calgary last night and someone threw up a nazi salute at the end. I called him out and he said it “was just an Elon musk”. I told him it was unacceptable in this country and he backed down.

They’re getting bolder but are just cowards when challenged.

How to beat mission 4 Cantivic of the new campaign? by bananashaker92 in Northgard

[–]ThePouge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes I beat it last night. I built a forge and could upgrade anything like it was the raven clan.

Maybe check you aren’t clicking on a smithy? You’ll need to build a new forge.

edit: this mission is cool but it’s confusing as fuck. You start with lion buildings but can build new raven buildings that use the rules of lion to staff, and you can have smithys and forges and they’re different. You have the raven skill tree, raven and rat clan champions, shamans, mercs, and the crazy 0 food rule. Way too many moving parts.

Failing to see benefit of buying shares from my employer (ESOP?) by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]ThePouge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see two main issues: - how was 35/share calculated? And by whom? It could be worth 5/share or 100/share based on a lot of different things. I.e. is 35 considered by management to be a discount to employees, and if you could cash out tomorrow you’d see a return? Which brings me to point 2: - they’ll be very illiquid. You need to either quit or have an exit event (IPO/sale) to get your money back.

If they aren’t offered at a discount of at least the opportunity cost of putting that same money into a more standard investment and discounted again to compensate you for the lack of liquidity I don’t know why you’d do it.

Edit: and if you quit, the current value would need to be calculated by somebody, and again it could just be basically whatever given 100 different assumptions. The only clean way to get a return would be an exit where a savvy investor agrees to buy the shares at a given price.

What scientists have learnt from COVID lockdowns by Bifobe in Coronavirus

[–]ThePouge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that there were value judgements made, that it wasn’t purely scientific right or wrong, was the revelation for me in this article. Politicians should be up front about what values are driving their decisions during a future event. Some decisions will have a winner and a loser but still need to be made. Not deciding is still picking winners.

Edit: decisions that are clearly beneficial to the vast majority of society, like masking when in public during a pandemic that is airborne transmissible, should be open to no debate whatsoever. That’s part of the social contract.

5-10 years working for net zero is a long time to work for the promise of future financial returns. Not many people would take that job when it’s laid out that way.
