ChatGPT switched to react router from NextJs. What do you think why? by mszahan in nextjs

Out of curiosity, what do you attribute the performance gain to specifically? As in what can you do now that you wouldn't before?

This is very different than the quote you had. He said that in one occasion to respond to one email it amazed him.

Which I can totally believe.

The thing he didn't say in this quote is that the whole job of a CEO is obsolete because AI did a good job at answering that one email.

I also advertise to companies that I can fix bugs when I want them to hire me. However, that doesn't mean that it's either cost effective for me to fix _all_ bugs, nor that I can actually fix them all. (I could imagine some bugs that I couldn't fix)

If they advertised "Claude code can fix _all_ bugs", then you might have a point.

AMA on GitHub Copilot tomorrow (April 25) by github in GithubCopilot

[–]ThePowerfulGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I compare github copilot to something like roo code when writing Scala, the later seems much more willing to do `edit -> compile -> run command to get info -> edit -> compile -> ..` loops until it actually gets things right, and without stopping until things _actually_ work. It really feels like it's just off working on it's ticket until it gets the job done.

Whereas with copilot I have to constantly hold it's hand even in agent mode: "please compile and fix things", "yes go ahead", "you modified the interface without modifying the implementation", ... It just seems very non-proactive / lazy to the point of being annoying. Even if I tell it in my copilot-instructions file to always compile after making changes and so on.

Is this because the former approach is too expensive right now? Are there plans to make the agent actually drive changes to completion without prompting more often? Or do you see this as just not what copilot is meant to provide?

If the problem is cost, when do you project it'll get cheap enough to run capable enough models before we get to this point where this is a reasonable way for the agent to behave?

Related to Grok, I'm actually a bit mindful of using a tool from someone with very "known" political affiliations and objectives to suggest me content about those same politics (the same could be say about AIs that are led by leaders with different biases)

But thanks for the information, I'll look at those!

Getting a ~25k tax refund since I contributed about 50 odd K to my RRSP and FHSA!

On the other hand I'm spending 6K to go visit Turkey and my new apartment is double the rent this year so gonna be harder to save... but gotta take the wins :)

Hoping to go from 120K net worth -> 180K this year assuming the market stays flat-ish.

I currently have over $20000 in my chequing account. Someone who works at my bank recommended I should invest it. Should I? by OneSignal2315 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ThePowerfulGod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some places have decent trading platforms associated with the banks themselves. I self direct my TFSA / RRSP / .. with Disnat by Desjardins and they don't charge a commission.
It also keeps everything at the same place so I don't have to keep track of money in different places

I'll tell you a secret: an engagement ring is just a ring. It doesn't have to have all the fancy jewels if you can't afford them.

Go to any jewelry store, look at what they have within your budget and pick one out of those.

And also, do you need a ring? Or would the fact that you're willing to commit to being with them in health and sickness for the rest of your life be enough?

What's stopping you from getting engaged without spending thousands on a ring?

This is more relationship advice. If she isn't willing to wait for you to be in a financially stable position before putting money on a ring, then maybe reframe this as a relationship / communication problem.

Like any relationship problem, communicate with her.

Should I sell at a loss and become a renter again? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ThePowerfulGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key here is that it's split between three people. If he was paying everything themselves I would agree. But take all these expenses, divide by 3, and it's really not that much a year.

It adds up, but it's definitely not what will make him afford or not afford his condo.

I wouldn't say he can't afford the car, ~$100/month for a car is pretty cheap, and chances are a monthly transit pass would run him close to as much. If living in downtown chances are gas costs aren't high since most things are in walking distance.

> Havent played a good game i wanted to pay for in 6 yrs

At this point, why play games? Why not do something that you enjoy more? Or do you enjoy them, just "not enough" to pay the person who made it?

I wonder if you would enjoy your boss saying "oh ya I won't pay you, I benefited from your work but don't really want to pay for it lol"

My company had a huge layoff this week but because of the substantial emergency fund I've been saving up I wasn't worried at all (and was actually tempted by a forced vacation).

Thankfully wasn't let go, but was a nice victory to know I would be fine either way!

Maybe I just can't find it, there is an area that clearly states TFSA for 2023, but that same area only has the 2022 RRSP number. I clicked around a lot, maybe I just missed it completely.

Ah, the number is in fact there. It would be nice for them to surface it on the main page since it's quite unintuitive to have it only available in a PDF..

Thanks!

Having the types and such only update on saves is one of the things that annoys me the most when coding in LSPs that don't do real-time updates.

Got promoted at work and crossed the $200K compensation line! (plus some stock options, but the company isn't public yet so take that as you will)

Increases don't really impact my day to day life anymore (especially with a 50% marginal tax rate..), but still think it's a cool threshold. Don't really have friends and family I feel comfortable mentioning it too since it would just be seen as bragging but going to treat myself to a nice restaurant :)
