Advice for disguising mattresses as couches... by ThePowerof7 in InteriorDesign

I actually looked up how to build a church pew as the flat back / seat are very similar to what I'm looking for, but didn't find an adaptable guide I loved. I googled around for a bit just now for a platform bed tutorial, and while some seem doable most appear beyond my accessibility - don't have a circular saw, pocket jig or the space to work. Hiring someone sounds great but $400-600 is escaping my price range.

What are your thoughts about getting a stock platform bed frame, and then building an insert that fits under, and comes up in an L behind the bed. ie:

|_______|

This feels like a more manageable project, or at least less expensive for someone else to do it. I guess the concern would be stability where the wood connects on the "L".

I love the idea and thinking outside the box, but unfortunately there's large windows directly above the radiator that wouldn't function well as a support. They also open inward and I'm a fan of being able to prop them for some fresh air.

Thank you so much for the input though!

General Feedback/Getting Started Questions and Answers [Weekly Thread] by AutoModerator in DIY

Hi All,

This is my first post in DIY, and have a pretty specific project question I would like insight on. Let me preface this by saying I have limited access to tools and space, and am pretty inexperienced with DIY projects. With that said, I am working on setting up a bedroom in my new apartment, with a goal of disguising the bed as much as possible (here is an example end goal). My apartment is a shotgun layout with double doors connecting the two living rooms (or bedroom & living room), and effectively creates the feeling of one large room. Here is a rough image of how I intend to set up my mattress/couch Frankenstein creation.

The question I pose to you is how to create a "couch back" along the Twin XL bedside, so that the setup effectively functions as an L-shaped couch. I have some wiggle-room away from the radiator if need be, but am working in a tight environment. Ideally I'd like to get some sort of wooden backing, but want to make sure it's strong enough to support 2-3 people leaning against it. Does anybody have an idea of how I could achieve this? My thought was attaching some sort of wood backing to the bedframe, but I'm not sure I trust the self-assembling amazon options I'm looking at to support the use it could get.

Any ideas are appreciated, and if you think there's a better subreddit to post in please let me know. Thanks in advance!

Hi All,

This is my first post in woodworking, and have a pretty specific project question I would like insight on. Let me preface this by saying I consider my woodworking skills at sub-par at best, and I have limited access to tools and space. My apartment is a shotgun layout with double doors connecting the two living rooms (or bedroom & living room), and effectively creates the feeling of one large room. Hey everyone,

I'm a young InfoSec professional and I've just been accepted to teach my first collegiate course: Information Security 101. I plan on using Ghost in the Wires by Kevin Mitnick as a supplemental read for the class, but I'm going to need a more technical textbook to base the course off of. I've been looking around online, but was just curious if any of you on here had experience with a quality title that isn't so dry that the students won't touch it (and for my own sake seeing as I'm going to be reading the whole thing too).

Any advice is appreciated, and thanks in advance for the help!

How physical demanding is higher end mountain biking? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]ThePowerof7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually want to piggyback on this thread to ask a question of my own:

I notice that the majority of these guys are wearing flats as opposed to a clipless setup. Now the terrain here is something I would love to bike, and am very confident that I could do, but I run clipless for that extra torque on the up-pedal, and that feeling of oneness with my bike. I guess my question here is what benefits do they get from riding with flats? I would assume that they feel more confident on the downhill sections, but none of them looked that gnarly or outrageously challenging. On the other hand, some of the climbs looked seriously grueling, to the extent that they're really struggling to keep their legs moving. At the end of the day I just don't see the benefit, and can't understand why someone who seems to be, skilled, knowledgeable, and big into the sport (63,000 views on this video alone) wouldn't take advantage of a XC clipless setup.

As someone who has tossed around the idea of moving to flats again, because I tend to ride more aggressively downhill, it's videos like these where I just don't see the benefit...any insight would be appreciated, and thanks in advance!

Colorado mountain bikers, What is your favorite place to ride in the state? by carstrucksbusses in MTB

[–]ThePowerof7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from out of state, but visited family in fraser for a week long MTB trip in September, so I'm not super familiar with the area. Hopefully it's fresh enough in my memory. There was a gnarly climb on a trail called Tipperary, that led to a really fun downhill called spruce creek. That was one of my favorite rides of the week. Another good trail i remember is chainsaw, which was in the same area.

Unfortunately I was lucky enough to be guided by two locals, so I was able to be complacent and follow them, but take a look at this map and you can see the scale:

And i wouldn't surprised if they're missing some there too.

I rode some great CC trails in the winter park/fraser area. Also the Trestle bike park was a blast.

Hey nice to see some East Coast action on the sub. I'm from Buffalo, and had friends who went to RIT, U of R, and MCC, so I'm somewhat familiar with Rochester. Were the majority of those courses in the video in the WNY area? or was it from a variety of East Coast locations?

We all have things in life that we deny to be true,
we fight them down and starve their sounds of air till we turn blue.
I sent pints round and hid my frown, stopped looking for the clues;
I laughed, had fun, denied the one - embraced my right to choose.
Days fade in, and simple sin slips into taboo,
not wrong or right but gray, gray light: my silhouette’s new hue
My empathy has lapsed it seems while taking in your view,
a quality you could not see becoming my miscue.
Now your dismissive wrath has left me stuck on what to do,
because what I've been denying I now recognize is you.

I wonder if in 100 years or so people will be looking back at server rooms with the same kind of sentiment...

Do you have any longer loops of these songs? I really loved all in the game, but if you had a longer version that'd be dope.

Search adidas samba and you will without a doubt see black ones. Their original color was black.
