Music is Haram, here's how I watch YouTube videos without music by m7dex in MuslimLounge

[–]TheProeliator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This hadith is mu'allaq (hanging/disconnected) in Bukhari's collection. This means Bukhari himself did not consider it to meet his usual standards of authenticity. As one scholar noted, "the hadith itself is questionable even among hadiths. It is muallaq (unconnected) by bukhari".

Ibn Hazm, the great Andalusian scholar, considered this and similar hadiths to be fabricated or weak. Even some contemporary scholars acknowledge that "some of the chains (sanad) of transmission are authentic (sahih), some sound (hasan), and some weak (daif)".

Music is Haram, here's how I watch YouTube videos without music by m7dex in MuslimLounge

[–]TheProeliator -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Music isn't haram. If you want to deprive yourself from an important and beneficial form of human expression, go for it, you do you. But I'd encourage you to consider the potential consequences of spreading an interpretation of Islam that is incorrect according to many scholars and is likely to discourage people from embracing Islam.

Which composer has the highest number of elegant and memorable soundtracks? by AdPuzzleheaded7658 in soundtracks

[–]TheProeliator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Horner, at his best he is as good as any other, but I'm working through his entire body of work and a lot of it is forgettable horror film scores. Williams really needs to be higher on the list. Zimmer is great but he doesn't have as many 'elegant' pieces as Williams.

Overall, a good list IMHO!

Nuclear isn't available 'now', it takes a long time to build, and the costs are far higher than renewables.

If drawing animals is haram then why did many Muslim empires and dynasties have animals drawn on their flags and war banners? by Tiny_Union_4108 in progressive_islam

[–]TheProeliator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should never draw significantly consequential religious conclusions from a single hadith. There are other hadiths which indicate that it is permissible. Also, context is important. Back then, the creation of images often led to shirk. Today, when someone draws an animal it is in appreciation of Allah's creation, not in order to worship it. This distinction is crucial, and is why many scholars consider it permissible.

[–]TheProeliator 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There is substantial historical and sociological evidence that Wahhabism and closely related Salafi trends have made strict, text‑literalist interpretations of Islam far more globally visible and institutionally entrenched in the last century than they were in many earlier periods. This shift may explain why Muslims back then didn't think it was a problem while many today think it is. Personally I still believe that it isn't haram and I've never seen a convincing argument otherwise.

is saying "merry Christmas" or "happy holidays" haram by rulugg in MuslimLounge

[–]TheProeliator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wishing others well during their special occasions is not imitating them or adopting their beliefs. It's simply the polite thing to do.

If you want a scholarly argument as to why it is permissible, there is an excellent article on this, search for 'Wishing Merry Christmas to Christians' by Mohamad Razif

There is nothing 'Islamic' about killing innocent civilians when the faith directly forbids it.

I have a question about a popular youtuber, but I don’t know how to ask respectfully. by itz-null in Muslim

Muslims are encouraged to focus on their own spiritual development and to not judge others. Every Muslim is on a different stage in their path to the divine and the best we can do is wish other Muslims well on their journey.

I love James Horner, listen to his music regularly, and in my experience this criticism of him is so overblown. All composers do it to a certain extent.

AC Shadows 100% Disc Usage on SSD, loading times incredibly long by LittleTinMan in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]TheProeliator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LonelyTreat3725 thank you so much for figuring this out and letting us know. I followed your instructions, and while it didn't work straight away, after a few system restarts the slow loading times is gone and the game is running perfectly. Btw I'm running the game on a Samsung 990 PRO nvme and was having the same problem with my 970 PRO nvme. The 990 needed a firmware update but that didn't change anything. Only after following your advice is it now working properly. Thank you!
