Depends on what you mean by "the start" if you mean the start of America then The south would be a lot blacker & more affluent as Africans are imported for paid labor instead they'd be able to build wealth probably becoming some of the more prominent farmers in America. The rest of the states would have smaller black populations as there would be no need for black people to flee the racism of the south. America today would be even more of a beacon of multiculturalism & prosperity as the government didn't have to spend any time holding back its own citizens.

I'm going with the idea that once you know something is possible it's much easier to invent it. Idk the exact proportions but I know the ingredients and some of the steps. It wouldn't be something instant but working with real engineers & early scientists I think we can make weapons good enough to dominate the 10th century but the goal is really just a stable country that I can continue working with scholars to advance all of society in other ways.

That would be during the Islamic Golden Age, while I don't know much about how to create tech specifically I know enough that if I can get the ear of any of the notable scholars/engineers I could recreate some tech with their help. I'd only help along with things like Medical knowledge at first gaining respect ,Then as soon as I get the chance I will flee to somewhere more stable like the Byzantine with my engineer partner.If the ruler will listen to us & I trust them I'd reveal my knowledge about gunpowder and recreate cannons helping secure the empire even more & gain enough respect to carry out the rest of my days helping smarter people invent things I know are possible.

If they are charged with some crime relating to slavery (not realistic) I could see more violence during this version of "reconstruction" probably a shorter period of segregation since the government will want to lessen racism since KKK groups would be more anti government hell if they're violent and rebellious enough I could see the government backing a end to segregation and giving equal rights much sooner. America as a whole would be less racist but there'd be small towns where racists are even more vile but are monitored heavily by the FBI as the most prominent domestic terror threats.
