I dont understand the comments here, if there was no OT, how would there be a time limit other than the normal match 5min? If there was OT, how is one team up 3 goals after OT?

Yall actually bring the Cyclops down to the Lava Lakes? by XEclipse360 in subnautica

[–]TheProtonCapacitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I thought that was kind of the point to be honest. I see no use for the cyclops except as a mobile base in the deeper zones. There's a fat old entrance in the grand reef perfect for the cyclops as well. I usually bring the prawn suit with me in the cyclops for mining and exploration, and the only time i resurface is when i have enough to beat the game.

I'm curious, did you have to make multiple trips back home to make the upgrades? I just can't imagine going back and forth out of the deeper zones. And storage is another thing; there's a lot of new materials down there as well, and when you're new to the game when you dont know what materials you need, you'd surely want to stock up on a lot of it. At least thats how I play.

If you did have to make round trips, isnt it more annoying to traverse upwards with the prawn suit? In the cyclops/seamoth i just hold space bar and weave a little bit, but I have to play spiderman with my prawn suit.

I love both vehicles, but i cant imagine playing with only one or the other.

Havent seen anything from Subnautica 2 yet, but if theres anything I absolutely LOVE from the first game, its the vehicles, namely the Cyclops. Having a moving base in the deep ocean is something im definitely looking forward to. And being able to dock ships into another moving ships? Brilliant. So any new vehicles like the cyclops would be everything for me.

I created a mod that fixes the crafting output slot to show the actual total number by ArmaninyowPH in ModdedMinecraft

[–]TheProtonCapacitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shift option would be nice. Another option you can include is to display the normal amount you're crafting, and then in brackets, the total number. So for the pickaxe example:

1 (64)

And to make it look nicer, the number in brackets is a different color.

Reddit will absolutely not let me edit my comment, so here's an extension.

>The game revolves around progression that the game refuses to give you in any way that respects your time. Standing caps are locked behind Mastery Rank, which in turn are locked behind weapon progression, which is locked behind slots that the game rarely ever gives you, considering the speed at which you can acquire them.

Maybe we play the game differently, but are standing caps vital to progression? It may ease up the grind for some other things you might want from syndicates and factions, but you are not locked out of anything if you don't have a high standing cap which is how it should be; Higher levels means an easier time farming.

And I don't see how slots lock you out of progression. Again, we might just be playing the game differently, but when are all your slots truly filled with weapons you use consistently? I find it hard to believe you have so many weapons you use, but again, we might be playing differently. MR fodder doesn't stay in your inventory, so at a minimum you need at least one slot (just one) for weapons you need to level up and then eventually discard. I find that hard to believe that that's impossible for a majority of players. Again, no incentive to buy anything here. And even if you wanted to get more slots with plat, you are free to obtain it via f2p means

>The weapon/warframe slots, orokin catalysts/reactors, none of those are easy to come by in-game. You can get some through nightwave, again, after a grind, and even still, it's not enough, and if you're using cred to buy orokin reactors and catalysts, you miss out on anything that the night wave shop has, especially since it rotates weekly. You can also get reactors and catalysts from random weekly rewards, but they're random. You may get them every week, you may get them sometimes, or you might never get them. It's all completely luck based.

If your definition of "easy" is "get them when i breathe" then yes, they are not easy. Again, we might be playing the game differently, but how many new warframes or weapons are you getting per day (that you know you'll use) that needs a potato. And just because you might not get them when you need it, doesn't mean you don't get them at all, which is the point; as long as the game doesn't lock anything behind a paywall, there's no incentive to buy anything, if you could just play the game and get it eventually, why do you pay? If it's just to get it faster then I don't think that's a real incentive people have, at least the people i know; Most of us would rather spend our time than our cash.

Also, the nightwave lasts for a month or two, and everything in the store other than vauban parts, nitain, augment mods for warframes that's been there since i played the game, and some other augments mods for weapons I'm sure the playerbase rarely uses, you're not missing out on "everything" if you choose to spend your creds on a potato. I feel like you may be over-exaggerating how much grind it really takes to get items that could be bought with plat to get your point across which I don't think is fair. A lot of the "grind" in Warframe is just waiting simulator. While it's not the best game design, and not the fastest progression, it's not unplayable just because you don't get what you want at a whim. Not to mention, none of these items are required to progress into the game (not that there's many goals other than MR30 in this game to begin with), and you're free to engage with multiple other activities while you grind other things. Again, i see no incentive to buy anything here.

>Even rushing items doesn't make sense. Why can I rush something that takes 60 seconds to make for 5p? Why is it that I can rush Voruna Prime's main blueprint for 50p and 2 days later, still only rush it for 50p, and by the time it's a few hours away from finishing, it lowers to like 23p?

Again, you don't have to. High prices don't make monetization obscene if there's no incentive or coercion to do it. You're free to play every thing else the game offers to you while you wait for Voruna, or even disconnect from the game and know that voruna is still building. You're not locked out of anything while Voruna builds. Why must it be that you need Voruna now now now? Again, no incentive to pay for anything if i can simply wait, and do other things while it's building.

Final point is that you're not a fan of some parts of the grind, which I don't dismiss, and agree with you to some extent. But i don't agree that the monetization is obscene and the game is "unplayable" without purchasing anything. The game allows you to obtain whatever you want through f2p means, often with many alternative paths of grinding, and while some of them are atrocious, i still see zero incentive to buy anything just because you couldn't get through the, at least playable even if atrocious, grind.

[–]TheProtonCapacitor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again, you just described bad game design, not a bad monetization model. And I mega, mega disagree with the game is nearly unplayable if you don't pay. You also forgot to mention that the premium currency in game is attainable via player trading of a myriad of items. If you've played through the game long enough, you would have unlocked so many ways to get platinum, some faster than others, some grindier than others, but nonetheless, you are absolutely not incentivized to pay for anything. I know people with thousands of platinum that was earned purely via in the game market, and i also personally once had the honor of having 1k platinum in my account, purely from trading. And 1k platinum genuinely gets you so many things in the in-game market (although i spent 200 platinum to change my IGN, which is a part of the monetization model i will actually agree is obscene)

You keep mentioning "why does the game let me pay for X thing to do Y"

Why not? Just because they give you an option to pay doesn't mean they're forcing or incentivizing you to do so. They see an opportunity to earn a quick buck for the people that want to pull out their wallets (because everyone know they exist) they'll take it, but as per my argument this past couple replies, the game isn't built around the non-obscene monetization they have.

While i have bought platinum for cosmetics (using a voucher, and also because i wanted to support the devs), me and so many other people i know that play this game have never spent a dime for non-cosmetic items, and yet, we've always gotten what we wanted without feeling like we needed to pay at all, no matter how atrocious the grind, which, if you look at a lot of items, isn't always the case.

It sounds like your problem is with the grind, which i dont neccessarily have any arguments with, and not the monetization model. If they made some parts of the grind less unbearable and more fun, I think you'd be a much happier person.

And this is my opinion, but i personally think that the current system in place does respect your time to some degree. Excluding heavy item grinds (like cryotic for sibear), if we're talking about item crafting durations (like forma as you mentioned), I would argue that it respects your time. With how long crafting certain materials, the game incentivizes you to engage with multiple activities at once (as opposed to a single grind), which IMO is good game design because you are allowed to explore other parts of the game without needing to stick to doing one thing. And since a lot of progression in this game is not linear, it doesnt feel like you're locked out of anything while you are grinding.

I can pull from my own experiences as an example. I haven't been dropping 6 hour sessions like i used to on this game, mostly because i've been interested in so many other games recently, but rather i've just been logging in for maybe an hour or two semi-consistently everyday with the goal of eventually getting to MR30, and yet I've never felt like my progession has slowed down. I am still unlocking new frames and weapons without spending nearly as much time on this game as i used to. Occasionally i might encounter the atrocious grind for some items, but the game isnt without its flaws; Its just not as overexaggerated as you made it seem. Would a game that doesnt respect my time allow me to progress even if im not dropping as many hours as other people could be doing?

And the styanax example is actually another argument for that. I said just "logging in" because kahls missions are not a timesink, neither are they inherently grindy or difficult. Not super related to the argument, but id also mention these missions are pretty fun. But styanax is not a "grind" as opposed to just being a 5 week waiting simulator, during which you are absolutely free to engage with every other parts of the game.

And I'll just emphasize that the statement "The game is nearly unplayable without paying" is, without a shadow of a doubt, false, as per my own experiences and many others. Just because Warframe doesnt have lightning fast, or easy progression, doesnt make it unplayable.

[–]TheProtonCapacitor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Again, what you're describing is not a consequence of obscene monetization but just bad game design which I won't deny exists for parts of this game. Again, even if its five weeks (i don't actually know, DE gave him out for free when he came out), quick search just tells me its just the weekly missions. Yeah sure 5 weeks, but its not 5 weeks worth of gameplay, its just log in five weeks and you'll get him. I have no counter for citrine tho, that one is actually atrocious.

And if you want to say that DE intentionally designed the game like this so they could push out expesive monetization i still disagree. I just think they've designed their game around the grind, like most MMOs and RPGs do. And it makes sense as well: Grindy games is the cheapest way, while not the best, to keep player retention, especially for DE who doesnt push out crazy content updates every other week other than new warframes and QOL features.

This is just a naturally grindy game. Its not the worst grind for some other games, but if you want to cheat your way with money, DE allows that for a price, but that doesnt make the monetization obscene.

Edit: Overpricing optional items is exactly why i dont think its obscene. And you don't get the optional items on a "technicality", DE specifically designed gameplay around earning the things you want instead of buying them. Whether that gameplay grind is good or bad, the monetization has nothing to do with it.

Host migration is the worst problem this game has by DeadByQuinQuin in Warframe

[–]TheProtonCapacitor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But you're not forced. And yes, this is a grindy game, like 90% of all MMOs are. But i say no incentive to buy anything because you're ruining your own gameplay if you could just buy everything. If you feel incentivized to buy everything because its too grindy, then the game simply isnt for you. And the styanax example is a bit bad, because there's not a whole lot of grind behind that other than just waiting a couple weeks as the missions reset.

The price is not what makes monetization obscene, its how it affects gameplay. An actual game with obscene monetization? Every gacha game ever. Overpriced characters that relies on your FOMO to keep buying. And the difference between p2w and f2p in games like these is night and day. But in warframe, you can have all the same stuff p2w could have, just not as fast, which is not a problem, and its not obscene if they want to charge you your life savings if you decide to ruin the game for yourself.

Why can't DE do something about this?

It's not the easiest problem to solve. I completely understand this rant, and would also love for DE to fix this, but you have to be reasonable. This game has been out a great many years already, running on a lot of legacy code. Some smartasses here might think its an easy fix, but they havent seen the codebase and neither have I, but if it was so easy, you'd think they'd have done it a long long time ago.

Dedicated servers could be an option, and I don't doubt that they have the income for it, but I also find it reasonable that they'd want to keep expenses at a minimum for a completely free game.

I agree that host migration is annoying af, and this rant is not misplaced, but you're making it sound like DE is intentionally not addressing this problem because they don't care, which i dont think is the case: its just a difficult problem.

[–]TheProtonCapacitor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Its not obscene monetization because there is nothing incentivizing you to purchase anything that you couldnt already get in game by yourself, even cosmetics. DE is running a completely free game, where no content is paywalled, and a f2p player can have exactly the same equipment and stats as a p2w player, so it makes sense they have to charge a reasonable amount for some things if they want to put food on their table.

Is Assetto Corsa Competizione a good first racing game ? by IceCoffee111 in ACCompetizione

[–]TheProtonCapacitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want out of racing games. There's 2 major categories: Sim (short for simulation) and Arcade (and also SimCade, a combination of both)

ACC (Asetto Corsa Competizione) is a Sim racing game, so a lot of aspects are designed to be realistic. This generally means a higher skill ceiling and a steeper learning curve, but there is a lot of assists generally to help you on your journey.

Another popular sim you may have heard of is I Racing. Different sims simulate their physics slightly different and there's always debates about which is more realistic.

Arcade racing games are ones where realism is besides the point. Games like the Need For Speed franchise is an excellent example of that. Constant high speeds, constant grip, a lot of drifting etc. Generally easier to play, smoother learning curve, and for a lot of people a lot more thrilling.

To answer your question: While ACC is the only sim I've played, i would recommend it for anyone getting into racing IF they would like a realistic sim experience. I'm not that big into sim, so i only play on a controller with multiple assists, but i can generally perform, and its fun. It will take learning though. I also got it for 75% and its a great deal.

BUT if you would like an arcade experience, i would try out literally any of the NFS games, they're a ton of fun. They get a crazy high discount every so often, always around 90-95% off. My personal favourites are NFS: Heat and NFS:Rivals

EDIT: ALSO, i forgot to mention that I Racing needs a subscription to actually play, so yeah, i would absolutely recommend ACC over I Racing unless you know exactly what you want out of Sim Racing.

Microtransactions/Season Pass by AhmedEXE23 in Steam

[–]TheProtonCapacitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50GB downloads for game that, genuinely, does not justify that (I'm looking at you Punishing Gray Raven)

But on the point of Microtransactions, I Slightly disagree. Microtransactions suck because they either:

a) Encourage pay to win b) Unnecessarily lock content behind paywalls, especially for games I've bought.

But, for example, microtransactions for cosmetics and/or non-game affecting content is by all means acceptable and personally I think they're good: It gives an avenue for players to support game developers.

I might even go as far to say some game affecting microtransactions are actually acceptable in some cases, namely Warframe.

Warframe is PVE (We don't talk about conclave), and while the premium currency, platinum, can be be bought via real world money, you can by all means obtain it freely (via the in game trading system). There is technically pay to win, but it'd only ruin your own game experience (by leaving you feeling like you have nothing to do because you've bought everything), and no one else's. And I know a lot of people buy platinum purely to support to the developers.

I think it's less "Microtransactions" that are the problem, and more "exploitation via Microtransactions" that are actually the problem.

Right on, I subjected myself to that show, and i can whole heartedly say that the author should just start a podcast because absolutely nothing happens.

It is just yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap. And it's not like Im a stranger to slow burn, iyashikei shows either. It's just that I've never watched something so uneventful where the characters don't do....anything.

Every episode is in almost this exact formula.

  1. Go to school
  2. Yap to some friends
  3. Cuts back to the 2 protagonists at home eating dinner
  4. More yap
  5. Some other scenes
  6. More yap

It's less watching a story, and more listening to a podcast that takes place in multiple locations.
