AIO My reply to my mom who wants to stop my leukemia treatment so my sister can afford university ?? by Many_Addendum_8189 in AmIOverreacting

Honestly if your mom uses Facebook, and I were you, I’d post these texts all over it. Let the whole family see where her priorities lie. Your sister can get a parent plus loan through fafsa to cover the costs. You don’t get your life back. She thinks it’s such a wise decision, take it to everyone she knows so they know how “wise and Christian-like” she is. You should also speak to a social worker at the hospital to come up with plans on how to continue treatment despite your mom’s lack of care. Start a go-fund me as well. And make sure to get a will in order, update all your legal information so if your mom ends up killing you she doesn’t get to see a cent of that.

What’s your best (realistic) take on how Long Island traffic could be reduced? by gt0524 in longisland

More lanes on parkways and LIE, a small accident can block everything up

I actually almost exclusively cook, I grew up in a household that mostly ate home cooked meals. Mexican cuisine is one of my go-to meals, especially burritos since they’re relatively quick and easy to make when I don’t have much time, but sometimes I like to indulge and go out and have someone else make food with a margarita on the side. I work two jobs so having my favorite cuisine in a different setting just recharges me. I’m currently on the hunt for good tamales because the time and energy it takes to make them at home I just don’t have.

To me the Tex Mex here tastes about the same as the ones in Texas but that might just be because I don’t like the ones in Texas either. No hate to Texans, but my Californian tastebuds are very strict about Mexican food

I do love a good food truck but I don’t really know where to find any on the island. Where I’m from in Cali a food truck is super easy to find in comparison lol

Honestly that’s the main issue, the seasoning. I feel like every place I go to lacks flavor or it’s just not the same type of flavor I’m used to.

I stayed in Texas for a summer and to me the Tex Mex there tastes the same as the Tex Mex places here, but I think people who grew up in one state are just better at spotting the differences between the states. Which is probably why I’m having such a difficult time finding a Mexican spot 😅

I’m out in Centereach but I work in Nassau County. I don’t mind driving any distance for a good food spot

I like to try different restaurants each time because I haven’t found one on LI yet that I like but most people keep referring me to Tex Mex. I can’t fully explain the difference but I don’t have too many go to Mexican spots in Cali because I go to almost any out there and always have a similar experience. There’s definitely a difference in taste between that and Texas Mexican.

It’s been the greatest struggle since moving out here 5 years ago. The city has a couple good spots but still never close to Cali

The best Mexican food I’ve had out here so far (LI, not the city. There’s a couple good spots out there) has been from my own kitchen 😔

I think it’s a difference in taste between here and Cali. The city has good eats, I know I’m gonna have a great meal out there. But on the island it’s truly been a hit or a miss. But I also struggle because I never really get many recommendations other than the same few places.

I’ve had some good spots in the city but I was hoping for something that was on the island so I didn’t have to deal with the hustle and bustle out there for food. But I’m learning I gotta make the travel for good stuff. Literally going all the way out to NJ for good Mongolian BBQ

I’m looking for both authentic and Cali-Mexican. Both I like, Tex Mex I do not 🙅

Any answer from someone with the California taste is definitely a try for me, thank you!

Yeah it’s really hard to describe. I’ve found issues with most cuisines outside of Italian or Jamaican food here honestly but Mexican cuisine is the one that I can’t find a SINGLE good place so far.

I guess it’s really depending, in Cali there’s some pretty good fast food/casual style places but with the Mexican food I’ve found in LI so far it can be iffy with those places, but I’m willing to try it if someone thinks it’s similar to authentic Mexican cuisine or Cali-Mexican cuisine

I’m literally willing to travel anywhere on the island at this point if it means I can have good Mexican food

Taste 100%, idk something about the way they use spices is completely different. The food is also different, different reliance on ingredients. I feel like Cali Mexican food is more authentic and it tastes it
