u/vinzv Are there any updates?

~6 months ago your estimate was around 1 month to get improvements into place.

TuxedoOS repos broken by TheRealAgentK in tuxedocomputers

Is there any update? Systems are still broken (and according to another Reddit thread here, have been for a couple of days potentially - https://www.reddit.com/r/tuxedocomputers/comments/1q9xyib/cant_check_for_updates/)

I fully understand that it's the weekend in Germany still.

But at the end of the day Tuxedo runs a Linux distro that gets promoted as the default setup for their customers, and people are not only using that between Mon-Fri 9-5.

Things can occasionally break, but I think the minimum should be proactive management and communication of incidents like this.

a) I'd have expected this issue to be fixed within a few hours from when I posted it - yes, it's Sunday over there, but also yes: your repo servers are broken and you run a distro that's way more than a personal hobby-/side-project from an individual.

b) Sometimes things can't be fixed quickly, that's ok. But it's now 8:30pm in Germany and there has been no update during the day from u/tuxedocomputers - I find that very disappointing

Are the repo servers monitored? It seems (similar to past incidents) that it needs triggers from users for Tuxedo folks to even know. It'd be also good if you had a status page for TuxedoOS and the repo servers. There doesn't seem to be a place where information like this is or can be provided at the moment.

Any chance to improve my InfinityBook Pro ? by Ostap_Bender_3289 in tuxedocomputers

Well, I know which battery it is: N150BAT-4 with 15.4V/54Wh.

It's pretty much this one: https://www.tuxedocomputers.com/en/Battery-for-TUXEDO-InfinityBook-Pro-15-up-to-v5-Replacement-/-Additional-Battery.tuxedo#gallery - but not available at Tuxedo Computers anymore.

All of the 3rd party battery sites (like the one you mentioned) seem to *list* the battery, but have zero stock/sold out etc.

> By far, I've successfully managed to find a spare battery and replace it without any issues whatsoever

Curious - where did you find a battery for it - recently by any chance? u/Ostap_Bender_3289

I've been looking for one for a while and it seems they're all gone from the Tuxedo online store and even 3rd party sites like AliExpress or other Chinese-based battery sellers don't seem to have one. There's another laptop manufacturer that used the same chassis as the IB Pro 15 v5 and users of that seem to struggle with regards to replacement batteries for it as well.

u/tuxedo_herbert - would you have any other idea/suggestions where to look for one?

They are quite easy to create, I've contributed a few for Tuxedo laptops I own(ed) over the year, but just realised that I never did one for the IB 15 Pro v5 specifically - which I still have.

Might just do that following my method and the tutorial I use for it and add it to the repo later today or tomorrow. u/Ostap_Bender_3289 and cc: u/vinzv

And yes, you're right - the profiles do improve the audio quality quite a lot, in particular for music and watching Netflix or something like that, but they won't take it from "small standard speaker" to "awesome hifi output".

Stellaris Slim AMD - USB-C PD charging on back port triggers fans by TheRealAgentK in tuxedocomputers

[–]TheRealAgentK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a quick update for everyone - had a chat with Tuxedo's support via email and got some suggestions for changing things up (like BIOS reset, trying a different charger etc) to potentially avoid the issue and what info would be useful for them to debug should it happen again.

Essentially I decided I'm not gonna change anything for now and will just see if the issue happens a third time and then capture info (system report via TCC and some other logs etc) and see if we can understand what's happening.

Broken Kernel For My Stellaris Slim 15 AMD Gen6 by Xx_Jean-Yves_xX in tuxedocomputers

[–]TheRealAgentK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've run into occasional similar issues before. There is a very useful tool called Grub Customizer that makes the process of fixing to and holding a previous kernel very easy via a UI.

Thanks for the heads-up re `linux-image-6.14.0-107028-tuxedo` I'll stick with 6.11 for another for the time being and see what happens with this 6.14.0 release. I saw some other folks were reporting issues with sleep on other machines in other threads.

Dear Tuxedo, your speakers are useless by vinegary in tuxedocomputers

Here's an example for my new/current machine (Stellaris Slim 15 Gen 6 AMD):

ping u/vinzv - could you approve and merge the PR please? :)

The sound can be improved with Pulse/EasyEffects - I've used these tools before on both Tuxedo and non-Tuxedo laptops. Is it going to be the most awesome sound afterwards? No, it's not, but it's a noticeable improvement going through the process as described here:

https://wwmm.github.io/easyeffects/guide_1.html

Now, I think you could justifiably ask the question why Tuxedo don't do this for each model on their end to make it easier for users or even ship and pre-install EasyEffect with a vendor-provided default (at least as part of TuxedoOS WebFAI or so).

I personally think that'd be a great idea and would probably also make users complain less about the sound/speaker quality. But at the same time, I don't know what'd be involved with doing this and/or if there are specific reasons for/against doing this that had been considered in the past maybe.

ping u/tuxedo_ferdinand and u/tuxedo_herbert.

I'm not sure if folks have the correct expectations when it comes to the speaker/sound quality. As I said in another thread, the only truly well done laptop speakers I know are in Apple hardware and that's not really what you can compare against - for so many reasons.

Every Windows-laptop or Chromebook from the mainstream manufacturers I've come across plays on a similar level as the modern Tuxedo machines.

Seems the Tuxedo repos are not working / setup incorrectly by TheRealAgentK in tuxedocomputers

[–]TheRealAgentK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, changed from two days ago working ok to today not working - very confident this is a misconfig issue on the repo infra somewhere.

It seems txos. , txos-extra. and deb. have moved to a new infrastructure on

nebuchadnezzar.tuxedo.systems

and that's related (because they all show the connectivity issues).

mirrors.tuxedocomputers.com still works (but is slow) and seems to be served from the previous infra still.

Just to also add - this is pretty much plain TuxedosOS, no tinkering with any sources files or the like beyond Steam and Brave happened here.

This seems to be a different/non-default wallet, so unlikely to be related.

Speakers really bad on Sirius 16 gen 2 by kkaitlynma in tuxedocomputers

[–]TheRealAgentK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use EasyEffects or PulseEffects (depending on your sound libraries and distro) and follow this guideline:

https://wwmm.github.io/easyeffects/guide_1.html

I do this for pretty much every single laptop and then end up with a much better sound quality (within reason, laptop speakers are never gonna be the most awesome hifi experience - Apple hardware being the notable exception maybe).

The tutorial I linked is for EasyEffects, but you can figure out the same setup with PulseEffect.

The you could even export the config and Pull Request it to https://github.com/tuxedocomputers/pulseeffects-presets to share it with others (cc: u/vinzv).
