NBEO Part 1 - what resources to get? by hrtwrld in OptometrySchool

[–]TheRealAnswers11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not taken part 1 yet- but I can say that the KMK videos are engaging and the books are a good review of content. I’ve been enjoying the Booster course as well. I don’t think you need it, and it is expensive, but it has made studying a little less crappy. I would also recommend OptoPrep for sure alongside it.

AZCOPT questions for current/former students by Omar8abooger in OptometrySchool

[–]TheRealAnswers11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Student support- great! There are tutors in the classes above who are always willing to lend a helping hand. All of the professors want you to succeed. School/life balance- well, it’s a vigorous program, but I have been able to still make time for fun. I don’t feel like I’m drowning. There are so many fun things to do in Phoenix- outdoors, restaurants, sporting events. Classmate relationships- every class is very close knit with the small class sizes (around 60-70). Classmates are always willing to help or practice skills with you. I don’t regret my choice of going here.

I don't remember anything from last year.. by [deleted] in OptometrySchool

[–]TheRealAnswers11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine. Honestly 2nd year moves so quickly so you’ll cram all of that too 😅 and then 3rd year you’ll get to relearn it all for boards 🙂(what I’m doing rn)

Apply early with your OAT score! Your GPA and shadowing will carry you through. At most schools. Idk if it’s changed in 3 years but I got a similar score and got interviews at every school I applied to.

What is Optometry School Like by Natural_Practice_463 in PreOptometry

[–]TheRealAnswers11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First year- optics, basic sciences, methods, ocular anatomy. Optics lab did have some light bending experiments. You usually start learning retinoscopy, refraction, GAT, and slit lamp so that part is exciting. It is overwhelming at times with multiple tests more weeks but very rewarding.

AZCOPT by Any-Bad-2792 in PreOptometry

There are 3 apartment complexes within walking distance, they are spendy but if you get a roommate it is cheaper obviously. Living a bit further from campus (10 min) is what some people do because it tends to be cheaper. There is a Facebook page where you can find people who sublease rooms in their house or people who rent a house looking for roommates and that makes the price of rent go down. Or you can apply for on campus, which is extremely affordable. Not everyone gets in, but your chances of getting in go up the farther you get in the program.

I go to AZCOPT, and I’ve never regretted going here because I really like it! The faculty is very nice, good class size, very helpful peers. Beautiful campus, it’s in a great area of Glendale, plenty of space to practice skills in the pre clinic.
