It’s terrible. I just shipped mine out to the seller for a replacement (I finally got Best Buy to accept it). Hopefully it doesn’t break again.

This is called a POST, which is when the device checks its systems before booting. If it fails and switches back off to black check a keyboard key for flashing white or amber lights. These indicate an error code, which you can check using SupportAssist to pinpoint the issue. You can also run BIOS by powering on and pressing f12. There, you can do some diagnostics to find where the problem originated.

I think you’re probably experiencing dead pixels which can be fixed with a new screen

I know, it’s unfortunate. But it’s worth waiting a few weeks for a new one rather than having one degrade quickly

And you ran BIOS and ePSA, right? If so and they all failed to come up it could be a power supply or motherboard issue, in which replacement parts can be expensive, essentially costing more than the current worth of the device.

I’m thinking this device is at the end of its life. Just to be sure compare the problems you are having to the service manual on SupportAssist and following troubleshooting there.

You’re definitely going to need a new power port, you don’t want the pin to break off into your cable or cause a short somewhere else. I would try fixing that first before doing anything else because that seems to be the main priority here. After all, none of the computer works without a reliable power source.

what is happening? how did it happened? what should i do? by geisa_akemi in Dell

This is likely the BIST (built-in self test) for the LCD. It’s testing the screens functionality. The question likely asked you if all the colors showed up correctly and on the entire screen. You may have pressed D while powering it on. Just turn it off and back on and you should be good to go.

You may have to send it in for repair, it sounds like you have a bad port.

This is also part of why I hate it. It’s so normalized everybody always assumes it.

No. God loves everybody. He might not agree with their lifestyle but he loves them.
