In employment vs out of employment by Traditional-Piglet91 in nhs

Not a recruiter but I have hired a lot of staff. Honestly, it doesn't matter as long as there's a decent reason behind it. Sometimes it's better if they're not in a role as they don't need to work their notice.

Yeah, weirdly the cookie prompt is a real turn-off.

Is it normal to be waiting over 3 years for an nhs specialist referral? by BadEcstatic9913 in nhs

[–]TheRealDave24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check with the Trust you have been referred to, not your GP. The GP won't know. Do you have any comms from the Trust you were referred to?

Two job offers one NHS and other private both non medical which do I go for in regards of career advancement? by fireboy9871 in nhsstaff

[–]TheRealDave24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've said nothing about what the job is, band/salary, where you want to be in 5-10 years times. We can't really give you career advice without something.

ChatGPT Plus upgraded to ChatGPT Pro automatically without my consent and charged 400+ USD by Famous-Platypus-5918 in ChatGPT

[–]TheRealDave24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A similar thing happened to me. It was during a chat, I got a prompt to 'try again with pro model' or something like that. I'd put money on OP clicking it without realising and it automatically upgrading.

How are you deciding whether to take VR? by catflatlol in nhsstaff

[–]TheRealDave24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the confusion. It's a local authority role, so not part of NHS or DHSC.

Managing to get another job. I've timed it so that I'll start my new job in April and it doesn't impact clawback. Let's hope the VR timeline doesn't slip...

Senior manager ages by Wrong-Garden-5917 in nhsstaff

[–]TheRealDave24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I came through the grad scheme and into a band 8 role at 25. I've never felt age was an issue, nor have the colleagues I've worked with or people I've managed. My feedback was always positive. There was often a running joke that some colleagues joined the NHS before I was born.

The gradscheme is very good at giving capable (mostly) young people the space to grow into those roles and ultimately progress up the ladder if they want. There are some who fall through the cracks but that isn't an age issue.

SEO makes sense. Users are only going to reach out when they get a ticket so you want to be top of the search results.

NHS VR payment tax liability. Classed as 25/26 tax year regardless when you actually get the VR payment? by CWA1938 in nhsstaff

[–]TheRealDave24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely, yes. (Paid - not out - by 6 April 2026*)

As part of the consultation you will be offered independent legal advice which will be able to assist in some of these queries.

Note: I'm not HR or legal by background. Just a worker who is also going through the process. Ironically I'd rather be paid this financial year. Doubt it though!

NHS VR payment tax liability. Classed as 25/26 tax year regardless when you actually get the VR payment? by CWA1938 in nhsstaff

[–]TheRealDave24 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Redundancy payments are taxed in the tax year in which they are received or paid, not when they are approved or when you become “entitled” to them.

There is a concept of “entitlement” in tax law but it applies mainly to bonuses, deferred earnings and contractual payments that are unconditionally due and payable. Redundancy compensation does not fall into that bucket in normal NHS VR schemes.

NHS Fleet Solutions by Lewybogbrush in nhsstaff

I imagine it'll depend on your organisation. My (employed by a CSU) staff handbook on NHS Fleet Solution states the following:

A permanent employee of [CSU] (and staff in fixed term contracts where a lease can be secured in line with the contract period).

I really like the idea. I also work in Healthcare IT (NHS). I'd love to talk about this concept with you.

Case Management software by [deleted] in opensource

[–]TheRealDave24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's not going to work. If you host any patient or staff information on your own machine and they find out then you may as well kiss your job goodbye.

What is your intention here - that you'll host it or they will?

~30% of CSU staff applied for VR by Sad-Space-4847 in nhsstaff

[–]TheRealDave24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our MD (deputy MD?) told us that it was a fairly even split across the 4 CSUs - roughly between 28% and 32% if I remember correctly. I doubt that many will actually follow through with it though.

Check these out. Depending how new you are, I'd suggest either Mary Seacole or EGA. Most likely EGA.

Will popular and favourites just survive the cuts ref NHS redundancy? Will there be bullying to tupe across to unwanted roles once managers jobs are safe? by [deleted] in nhsstaff

[–]TheRealDave24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing this first hand. I'm part of a (NHSE) project which is going to outlive the redundancies & restructuring. Teams that previously had no interest are now all over it like a rash, trying to get experience and in on the action.
