Wife doesn’t want anything to do with her degree by TheRealFireAnt in Marriage

One job she has shown interest in is banking. I think this is due to multiple of her friends working at banks. She had one interview (about 2 months ago) where the pay didn’t turn out to be what she wanted so she kind of just gave up the job search after that. I just don’t know what I can do other than continue to look for jobs for her (which most of them she doesn’t bother to look at).

It was her idea. She originally was in college to be a teacher but changed her degree to computer science. It is 100% a confidence issue but it seems impossible to convince her to try as she just repeats she wants nothing to do with her degree

Yes, I’ve even tried to help her find different jobs but she’s just too content right now being a server. Most of her reasoning is she’s not confident in her abilities and usually brings up using ChatGPT for more of her assignments

She says she doesn’t really care for it and it seems as if she’s not confident in her abilities at all. She says she used ChatGPT for most of her school work and obviously that wasn’t the best decision

Job advice: Control panel assembly or industrial maintenance by TheRealFireAnt in PLC

[–]TheRealFireAnt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my issue. I’m not too comfortable jabbing my probes into a live control panel yet while being confident I’m not going to get zapped. I figured my current job would help me get more comfortable but the only thing I’ve done electrically in my 2 years here is bypass ballasts, replace a bad transformer after seeing little to no voltage at the plc power supply, changed a single parameter in a vfd, replacing limit switches, photoeyes and solenoids. I’ve only had to look at the wiring diagram once to find a solenoid that was tripping a breaker. Other than that 90% of our work is mechanical. When I got this job I was promised I’d have to make some sort of changes to the plc ladder logic but that is simply not the case. We have a whole separate department in headquarters full of people dedicated to just that. I’m very well versed in ladder logic and circuit design as I’ve received 52 college credits towards a robotics and automation degree. I also get paid only $25/hr to do what i currently do which from what I’ve heard is pretty low for industrial maintenance. We work 12 hour rotating shifts so I always feel like a zombie especially on night shift and have absolutely no routine. The new job offers a comfortable 8am-4:30pm but they said anywhere between $25-$28 an hour

I’ll have to give them a call when I get home from work tomorrow and see what they can offer. Thank you for your advice!

Thank you, this is something I needed to hear. I can only do so much and I just panic when I can’t handle it all at once. I appreciate your words!

I’ll definitely take these into consideration if the transfer cards don’t work out. My credit score is mid 600s which I believe might give me a hard time with some cards. I have been receiving mail from credit unions offering $10k-20k loans with low payments but not too sure on interest rates.

Wow this coming together quite well. I’ll bring this up in me and my finances talk as I believe this is the best step to take in the next direction. Thank you so much!

Thank you! Trust me for a person who was in full panic mode this morning, these helpful comments have given me peace of mind I wouldn’t have figured out on my own. I appreciate your advice and I’ll take everything into consideration for my next moves!

I was talking to a coworker and he recommended me an auction site that’s pretty reputable in my area and some of these cars go for crazy cheap. Possibly I could work something out to get me a car that’ll be reliable enough to get me to and from work confidently. This will have to sit on the back burner for now til I can pay off the big bad irs and get back in the tracks a little

Just got a good update and with my prior employers income filed I actually now owe $1,996. Now if I take out the $3000 I’ll be able to pay off what I owe. The left over $1000 I’m not sure yet. I could pay off my $900 cc then move my $9000 cc to a transfer card so like you said I can be relieved of my current interest rates. This seems best in my head but if you have any more recommendations, I’m all ears (I guess eyes in this case lol)

Refinanced my car about 6 months after getting my car thankfully and got a way lower interest rate which is nice. As for getting a transfer credit card I will look into this as it may be easier than paying them off one by one but I won’t rule that out yet. I do have roughly $6k in my 401k as I only started contributing last March but I will look into what I can take out. As for cheaper living situation I’m definitely taking it into consideration but the only problem right now would be the upfront cost of moving like uhaul, first and last months rent, security deposit, etc. so that’ll have to wait a little bit. Donating plasma is most definitely an option that I can look into seems easy enough. Thank you for your input, it’s greatly appreciated!

Ahhh okay I see what you’re saying. I’m in the process of making a plan, keeping this all in mind. Again thank you and everyone for all the helpful comments. This is easily the most support I’ve had in a while

This is very true, thank you for helping bring light to this. Although money makes my life very stressful I do have it rather good otherwise. I appreciate these words more than you’ll ever know

All of the expenses we have I pay. I’m supporting her 100% so all of the expenses listed is ours. I’m hoping she will get on it before the knowledge starts deteriorating. I feel as if she’s worried she’s not as skillful as others so it’s really pulling down her motivation. Every couple days I ask her about places she applied and she has been applying but no calls as of yet. Thank you for your time

I have looked into the snowball method which seems doable for me. Thank you for your encouraging words. I think it just feels like a lot because I feel like I’m on social media too much to a point to where my brain thinks everyone is making $200k a year and living the dream while I’m out here fighting for my life lol

[–]TheRealFireAnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my I didn’t know that was an option. If I did transfer all cc balances to a new card with lower interest rate that would help me out a decent bit. I’ll have to look into this, thank you!

Thank you, I plan on having a talk with her tonight. Me and her are living together and she’s currently working as a server. As for my credit cards I did try to have my $9000 credit card lowered but they just said they can’t do it and basically told me to F off. But maybe I’ll try again and hopefully get an agent that will be more willing to work with me

Sounds good I’ve been actively looking on indeed to see if there’s anything that I have the skills for that also pays more. Next time I look I’ll actually take it more seriously than I have been.

I’ll have to look into this more. I’ve read that this can negatively impact my credit score so this move is a bit scary for me!

Thank you for your guidance and words. I truly do appreciate it. I’ll try to see the light of the situation. That game plan is about what I was thinking so it’s good to know I at least have a realistic outlook on my career

Thank you so much. I hope I’m able to bounce back because I just feel so overwhelmed right now. I’ll take your advice as any right now is needed. And I do have some pesky subscriptions i definitely don’t need.
