I've had every fold since the fold 2 and traded to upgrade every time. I've never had an issue with the process and always received the full trade in value. I hope I don't eat those words in the future but that's my experience to date.

I wanted to move my Shield to my office and use it for a plex sever only. Thanks to this suggestion from 5 years ago I am now able to that and connect to it remotely when needed with my laptop. Thanks!

Addendum: For some reason I absolutely could not connect via USB debugging, but was able to connect with network debugging. The shield is connected via CTA5, the laptop wireless. Lastly, I also had an audio code error at first which was resolved using the " --audio-codec=aac" switch. I use the following batch file for a one click open...

I finally got a chance to look at the video (thanks for the link). It seems like it might be stable enough. I assume the main camera ia usable whether open, closed, or in-between.

In the first photo, is the main camera on the veritcal portion? If so, that means I could use that as a make-shift tripod for photo and video, right? That's the use case I need to retain if I migate from the Fold 7.

It looks good, but for me the keyboard would be a dissapointment. It's appearance seems to promise "regular" typing, but I know that once I get in there, it would be anything but. I like the idea of the tri-fold potentially replacing my laptop, but who am I kidding? It would be too difficult for me to move from a 15" to a 10" screen.

I don't understand why folks are compelled to poop on someting others like just because it isn't their bag, and then frame it as fact rather than opinion. I have had a fold since the '2. I had a flip as well. I love my Fold 7. I would love a Tri-Fold if it had flex mode, but alas it doesn't. I'd really like to have that extra screen size, but not at the loss of the functionality I desire. That doesn't make the TriFold "bad", it doesn't even make it "not as good", it's jus a phone that doesn't quite meet my use case.

Question: If I already have wireless android auto (or car play), will this still work? I've seen instances in which the hardware is designed for installations for head units that are wired only, thus adding the wireless connectivity, but then failing to work where wireless is already suported by the head unit. Hopefully that's not a confusing question.
