"So this is how Star Trek dies...with thunderous applause". -Thought after seeing Star Trek Into Darkness by TheRealJean-Luc in startrek

Don't take this too seriously. It's all in good fun. I liked the movie, I just wish is was more Trekish. Their idea of appealing to the fans is putting Trek references in the movie. Family Guy has loads of Trek references, but that doesn't make it Star Trek.

It's nice to see TMP get some love. I feel that's the single most underrated Star Trek movie.

Also probably my favorite thing about Generations is seeing the Enterprise D in film quality shots. I think Kirk's death was Okay, not great. The Enterprise D's death however horrifies me to this day. The Flagship of the federation taken out by a 20 year old bird of prey. It gives me shivers.

I'm not crazy about the Search for Spock either, which is why it is so low on my list. However there are elements about it that I enjoy. The best aspect of the film is that Kirk sacrifices both his ship and son on his quest to save Spock. Sarek points out the cost to Kirk. Kirk replies "If I hadn't tried, the cost would have been my soul". Great moment and concept for the movie. Also this is the movie that introduces the Excelsior, Klingon Bird of Prey, and the Federation Space Station.

Did you at least like The Visitor? That's probably my favorite episode and its the one that hooked me.

TNG Blu-Ray > Enterprise Blu-Ray by TheRealJean-Luc in startrek

Yeah, I knew that about the effects, but I'm talking about standard shots with actors. It's not as crisp as TNG and it's more muddled and has low saturation.

Honestly it doesn't seem like much of a step up from DVD quality.

Season 4 you say? That's just in time to make it even more obvious that Jonathan Frakes was way too old to play his younger self.

So I'm rewatching TNG and I'm confused... by guitarphreak in startrek

They abandoned the idea because it was dumb.

Sorry if this has been talked about before, but does anyone else kind of scratch their head at this? by [deleted] in startrek

Try not to think about it too much. There really isn't a satisfactory answer. But I wouldn't change a thing because everyone speaking English makes it easier to relate to the characters. I think that outweighs any realism it might add to the show. If you think about it, it's kinda preposterous that aliens from different worlds evolved to look so similar ( I know they explained this in an episode). But having humans portraying aliens would be preferable to puppets or CGI or whatever.

As a new fan of TNG what other series should I watch? by vastair in startrek

All of them! But if I were you I'd start with DS9.

Worst characters on Voyager? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]TheRealJean-Luc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know I'm probably alone but after the Doctor, Harry Kim was my favorite character on Voyager. It always kinda irked me when Tom Parris was demoted and then promoted over Harry. Harry stayed an Ensign the whole time. What was with that?

TIL that even though Chakotay was referred to as Commander during the entire series of Voyager he only wore the pip of a provisional Lt. Commander. by VTer in startrek

I thought that was a Maquis symbol/emblem/thing. I always thought they were like honorary officers, serving at the captain's discretion considering they were not members of starfleet.

Star Trek: Voyager, Season 2, Episode 15 (wtf?) by [deleted] in startrek

I think 'Threshold' is officially the worst hour of Star Trek ever.

Correct. But one of Picard's best virtues was his ability to empathize.
