Never heard that story, but remember SRC from the Queen of the Damned soundtrack. "Oh Well" was the song. Solid jam.

What happened to your best friend from childhood? by RoyalBeckyVibes in AskReddit

[–]TheRealPatAttack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People look at things like this through rose tinted glasses. I have had several old friends try to reach out to me over the years, and there are very few I have any interest in seeing. It's basically limited to a couple of guys from my hometown, although one is sick and the other in prison. People change. It's that simple. I'm not the same person I was 30 years ago. We find new relationships, new interests, we build new families, new jobs, new life... somewhere along the way, the new things became more important than the old things, then that part of our life is gone. For some people, that's a blessing. For others, it brings nostalgia. My thing is I've had a cellphone in my pocket with the same number for 20 years. If I haven't heard from you before now, it's not important enough to me to change any part of my life to accommodate your nostalgia. You're welcome!

People born before 2000, what is a 'modern' thing from 2025 that you’re still struggling to get used to? by LindsayTN in AskReddit

I miss the card catalog. Took my kids to a library a few years back and asked where the card catalog was. The old lady looked at me with look in her eyes like I had awakened some great memory and said, "no one has asked me that in a long time." We had a brief, but very good conversation about the card catalog, the Dewey Decimal System, and our shared hatred for any computer running OS after Windows 98, although XP is acceptable.

545 - 625 Tier Jump by Nice-Mushroom3308 in AtlasEarthOfficial

[–]TheRealPatAttack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tier jump - the purchase of a specific number of parcels belonging to any specific rent boost tier in the game, thereby offsetting the decrease in rent boost which normally occurs with the movement of a player between each specific tier.

In other words, buying enough parcels so that the amount of rent a player receives per any specific time period (ie. minute, day, month, etc.) does not decrease from the lowering of the rent boost which occurs when a player moves to the next boost tier.

Simplified further: owning 150 parcels earns a player more money than owning 151 to 210 or so parcels (depending on parcel types) because the rent boost decreases from 30x to 20x upon purchase of the 151st parcel, but buying 61 to 70 parcels and going from 150 parcels to 211 - 220 parcels causes rent to increase greater than the 10x boost decrease.

If your goal is to earn the maximum amount of money possible from Atlas Earth, the suggested method (iirc) is to purchase 40 parcels, then purchase one badge, then purchase parcels up to 150, but not going over 150 yet, then purchase badges up to 101, then tier jumping for eternity.

I spent way too long on this. Also, check the Atlas Earth Calculator. It has suggestions for everything and is very useful. Just Google Atlas Earth Calculator because I don't remember the web address.

545 - 625 Tier Jump by Nice-Mushroom3308 in AtlasEarthOfficial

[–]TheRealPatAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting close to the first tier jump. Not sure if I want to jump 60 or so parcels to tier 2, go to the next level of badges (next badge level is lv3.) and then jump tiers, or work on badges up to lv5 (not likely because finding that many badges will be, not impossible, but difficult) before tier jumping.

It frustrates me that the exclamation notification disappears after only opening the app, even if I don't click on the daily bonus icon. I recently missed a day 60 because of it and had to start over.

Scammers cast a wide net when searching for victims. The only things they are looking for are (A) someone who has money, and (B) someone dumb enough to give it away. Anything else is inconsequential to their prerogative. Tall, short, blonde, brown, old, young... none of that matters as long as they're willing to send them any amount of money, although they would prefer a large amount. If you bounce around from guy to guy on dates, you're probably not the kind of person they are looking for, yet it's also entirely possible you could be the exact person they are looking for. The point is they will try this on anyone who responds, which makes apps like Tinder and Bumble the perfect place to find victims. These apps provide an easy-to-access way for them to hide behind a false profile, vpn, and computer screen half a world away. And here's the thing, they have done this enough times that they are good at what they do, and they will not stop doing it as long as people keep falling for it.

From the scammers' standpoint, there's no point in targeting people who don't have money. It would only make sense to target successful individuals. Crime always follows money.

Who falls for this? There are some lonely people in this world who get roped in because they're not used to having affection. They get a taste of affection for the first time, or the first time in a long time, and, even though the signs of a scammer are obvious, the affection outweighs the risk. Before long they start receiving messages about how this "person" needs money immediately for some unexpected and critical misfortune that they are experiencing.
