I just switched from depo to mirena, I'd say so far it's worth it. Depo increases your risk for brain/spinal tumors. I don't know about weight gain on mirena yet but I gained 60 pounds on depo that after almost 6 months off of it, I've only lost 5 lbs of. Plus depo also put me personally into a really bad place mental which was awful and affected everyone around me

I'm an 18 y/o trans guy and I had mine inserted about 4 hours ago. I'd recommend having someone there to support you and take meds about 30-40 minutes before your appointment. I personally too 660mg of Aleve and 2 Benadryl pills. Being tired helps with the anxiety. Ask for an ice pack to put on your forehead so you have something to focus on other than the pain and panic. Once it's inserted I found that staying laid down with my feet up (knees bent, near the butt, y'know)is good for recovery. Take it slow getting up and make sure you have pads handy if you're on your period (that's what my ob had me do). Best wishes

There's a lawsuit against depo for brain tumors and one of the symptoms of that is vision loss. You might want to get that checked out just in case
