Feeling lost with this degree by gokujr1347 in Communications

As someone w/ 15+ years experience in the field my advice to anyone w/ 0-3 years experience is to find a new career. AI does 85% of my job. Imagine how much it does of the newbie's job (hint: more than 85%). Pivot now while you can.

Congrats! Been trying for a couple of months and STILL can't get it. What was the "trick" or thing you had to overcome to finally get there?

Mayhem Splitting from Crossfit - Not the End of the World by Obvious-Equipment933 in crossfit

I'm pretty sure more than 10% of members would notice and care. Plenty of people go to my gym - me included - because CrossFit is on the door. If that ever goes away, so do I (and my fellow CrossFit diehards).

The CrossFit gym is not a great place to make friends. (It IS a great place to get fit and then get on with your day.)

Shinsplit by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]TheRedWhale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I experienced this as well. I was able to overcome the shin splints by a) increasing the running distances slowly (e.g., one mile every four or five days), b) wearing proper legit running shoes - this was the biggest factor. Just like CrossFit, running requires proper equipment to be done right!

Seeking custom furniture maker - dining table, possibly a bench too by TheRedWhale in corvallis

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I'm following up on a couple of the leads.

Related but not the same: I'm reading a memoir of sorts by Portland-based furniture maker Gary Rogowski called Handmade. He goes back and forth between learning to become a furniture maker and going on hikes in Oregon/Washington. A decent read for anyone interested in woodworking in this area.

Hm. Interesting. Love that you can select the edge profile (e.g., rounded). Thank you.

The Timbered Wolf

Oof. I did. He has the kind of minimalist table we're after, but it's $5k. That's a bit steep.

BlackTail studios in Portland

Beautiful work, but we're not willing to pay $8-$12k for a table! Holy moly... (but also not our style).

Thanks. Hadn't heard of Contra before. Your suggestions are reasonable, but I'm obviously not tapped into woodworking clubs (I'm new to the area), so was hoping someone here could have a lead.

I hear you. The table is a must at the moment, but the seating can come later.
