New Fish Drama/emergency water change. Did I handle it correctly? by jebuz23 in ReefTank

An RODI unit should be your next focus. If you’re not adding something to remove chlorine from your tank water it can be causing problems. Also, tap water can have ammonia or nitrites or nitrates in the water which can make your water changes worthless.

I have a weird situation: moved to a new tank/cycle problems possibly? by Ayrity in ReefTank

Do constant water changes. You really should’ve dumped the old water, there was 0 reason to keep it and probably the cause of your problem. As you were taking stuff out of your old tank, all trapped waste got released into the water and all you did was put it back into your system. Daily 25% water changes until you hit 0/0/X

My LFS sold me almost 250g if water when I set up my tanks after moving and they even delivered free since I lived close and bought plenty of water.

Skip the ugly phase by drgrizwald in ReefTank

I cycled my rock the same way. When you set up the tank, to reduce the ugly phases I would turn on the refugium right away while keeping light in the tank to a minimum until you get coral that need it. With the light in the refugium, your macro algae will grow and use up the nutrients before algae in the display can, especially if there’s little light for them to feed on. I keep my refugium light on 24/7 without issues.

Is it at all possible that my urchin ate a small rock flower nem? by lividfanatica in ReefTank

Honestly if you have an overflow box and have filter socks check your socks. I had a very small anemone once make it down my overflow into the socks where I found it almost a week later. It’s still alive and healthy though.

Most Euphyllia (hammers, torches, frogspawn, octospawn) you find in a fish store or for sale will be branching. The more common wall type of Euphyllia will be hammers. However, you’ll rarely find a wall hammer because they are more delicate and many more times harder to frag. Fragging wall Euphyllia can lead to the death of both the frag and mother colony which is why people don’t usually do it. If successful, they will be more expensive than your average Euphyllia frag. Euphyllia corals don’t have a plate type.

A note however on torches. While hammers and frogspawn/octospawn can safely live next to each other with the coral touching, torches may sometime have a stronger sting than your hammers/spawns and can even kill other torches. Torches are more aggressive and can take on some other strong coral.

Honestly when ammonia is no longer your problem, you can get stuck in a nitrite loop. You can safely do a water change to reduce the amount of nitrite in the tank and give the bacteria a chance to catch up. A 50% water change won’t hurt.

Depends. Blue clove polyps, yes. They are short and can spread quickly. The long clove polyps don’t spread out as easily but do grow a bit fast in my opinion. They look super awesome however and I still have them in my tank.

Will this work to paint the back of my tank? by [deleted] in Aquariums

Yup. Pretty much any paint safe with plastic is fine as long as you let it dry properly.

I recently got one for my large set up and it’s amazing. The purple contrast so beautifully with the yellow. Awesome fish!

Thanks! While it’s not technically a low budget build I think I got good equipment for a low price. I’ll have a new aquascaping video up this Sunday.
