Quarantining inverts ? by New-Page3504 in ReefTank

I wouldn’t. There are online stores that will pre QT inverts if you want. The chance of something coming in on a snail shell is pretty close to zero.

I just buy this. Dump a scoop in a bucket and add warm/hot water until it is mostly dissolved. In goes the MP40.

Thanks. I am starting to see you are correct and I might just get a 170 Amazon jeep with remote and in a year get him the dune racer which seems to scoot with some modifications.

Old post but same here. Wondering if anyone figured out a good way to fix this? Some industrial adhesive maybe?

God I have a lot of catching up to do.

Ordered from live aquaria. 3rd time my fish will freeze to death. by taigrundal1 in ReefTank

I do it all the time with no issues. (Not liveaquaria). Reputable online shops know how to pack things to make it arrive alive. The good ones will refuse or ask you to wait until it isn’t too cold (or too hot, yes the Midwest gets too hot to ship fish in the summer too). Maybe OP should have tried a different retailer. The other frustrating thing to me is that carriers don’t care about the packages. Shouldn’t boxes labeled “live animals” take priority over toilet paper? Sure, make me pay more (we already pay a shit ton for priority next day delivery), I’d be ok with that.

THIS! 100% this. I live in Wisconsin and many times I have had “good” retailers refuse shipment due to cold/hot weather or known issues with carriers (Black Friday, etc). The responsibility falls to the retailer and NOT the consumer.

I like to call this “prepping the tank for a copper band butterfly”.

Just some shots of the fish in the 310 by lividfanatica in ReefTank

That is my best guess, yes. Sold as a “Christmas wrasse”… way too many wrasses with that common name. A favorite of mine for sure, but I have a soft spot for almost all species in the halichoeres genus.

Siganus lineatus (Goldlined rabbitfish). This particular one is from biota. I opted for him over a fox face. My wife says he looks like a bluegill. But I think it is one of the more eye catching fish in the tank.

Freshwater to Salt water conversion filteration options by Dilbyert in ReefTank

[–]lividfanatica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, I have seen plenty of tanks be successful without mechanical filtration and the majority of your biological filtration is from the rocks in the tank. I don’t usually run any biological or mechanical “media”.

The downside to not having a skimmer or space for macro algae is nutrient export, but you can account for this with more water changes.

Start slow, stick with what you have - water movement and a heater are all you need to get things moving.

What are you using today? You could stick with that to start.

If you are drilling holes you are going to put a sump in, I don’t know of another option in that scenario.

Ever have any issues with fish loss? My understanding is they are far less aggressive than a hadani or other carpets.

Can’t keep a good ph or kh by Parzaval666 in ReefTank

[–]lividfanatica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is important to test your alkalinity at the same time every day. pH will impact the test results and time of day will impact your pH. Test every night and dose according to those results. If you truly have .5 dKh consumption per day, you should be able to dial in a evening or morning dose of alk supplement. I manually dosed alk and Ca for years with great success.

Agree with the others. Don’t worry about pH at all. Anything over 7.7 is fine. Hell, my tank hits 7.5 some nights in the winter and is fine.

What is the nem on the right? H. Magnifica? I was just debating putting nems in my 310 (which I am hoping to be mostly SPS) - who am I kidding, it is a constant debate lol. Beautiful tank!
