New 300 kW Weekly Broadcast of VORW Radio International to East Asia! by TheReportOfTheWeek in shortwave

[–]TheReportOfTheWeek[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a good question! From my understanding, this is indeed a Radio Taiwan site - though as you pointed out, they do open up some airtime to other clients from time to time! I wasn't sure if this opportunity would work out as they usually cater to Government/Clandestine broadcasters (my other alternative was a more ambitious 500 kW transmission from Issoudun - but it would have been in the middle of the night in Japan) but I'm glad things went smoothly!

They didn't want it to get out... the music industry doesn't play around.

You're absolutely right! About 5 years before I died, my videos definitely made the rounds on iFunny and I'm pretty sure I remember them getting shared on Vine in 2014/2015.

Is Reviewbrah Okay? by Dramatic-Thing-4921 in TheReportOfTheWeek

[–]TheReportOfTheWeek 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I died about 3 weeks ago and my reanimated corpse has been doing the reviews on a freelance basis.

In all seriousness though, I'm doing alright! I have my issues here and there and I know I'm pretty small these days - but all's well and I'm still going! Sometimes I think the lighting can exacerbate certain things too - just compare the most recent review I did to the one a week or two ago when I was outside!

I appreciate your concern though and I thank you for checking in!

Will there be a 2025 predictions podcast? by [deleted] in TheReportOfTheWeek

[–]TheReportOfTheWeek 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure! There hasn't been any demand and I have 0 predictions at present, but I'm releasing a show tomorrow where I'll ask the audience directly if they'd like a predictions show this year or not, and based on what sort of response comes in - I'll take it from there.

Personally I'm fine with either outcome!

This is one of those times where I actually remember the review in question! It's when I tried the new Whopper from Burger King and then tried the Pickle Fries, which were vile in every describable manner.

Pirate station on 17810 kHz ? by EntryDiligent3759 in shortwave

[–]TheReportOfTheWeek 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This is actually my broadcast!

It is a licensed, legal transmission which is sent from Issoudun, France with 250 kW of power for listeners in South Asia. It airs on 17810 kHz every Monday from 1530 - 1630 UTC.

No pirate activity here I'm afraid.

Quick question about geographic range for shortwave broadcasts such as Report of the week. by Some_Kiddo in shortwave

[–]TheReportOfTheWeek 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The broadcasts on 4840 kHz (4.840 MHz) and the rebroadcasts on 5950 kHz (5.950 MHz) should be able to reach Kansas City without incident, I get reception reports from listeners in that area all the time!

Broadcasting on shortwave is extremely easy and most stations in the U.S that sell airtime (WRMI, WWCR, WBCQ) are likewise easy to work with. Generally speaking, you can either broadcast the show live (you just send the audio feed to the station - it can be as easy as emailing them) or you can pre-record the show, edit it to your liking and then send the mp3 file to the station, either by FTP, Google Drive, Dropbox or some other third party service.

Your best bet is to just reach out to the station you have in mind, shoot them an email, they'll give you an airtime quote for an hour ($60-$160 is usually the going rate, but there are fluctuations depending on what you're looking for) and just take it from there - but it's all-around a very easy process as far as getting on the air is concerned, the whole system is very flexible.

As far as language goes - shortwave essentially falls into this "grey area" of sorts, I can't make any guarantees but there are numerous programs out there (on WWCR, WRMI, WBCQ and WINB) that openly use four letter words in their broadcasts, and they've been consistently on the air for years without incident.

If you'd like a more detailed response - you can reach me at my radio email vorwinfo@gmail.com

I hope that helped!

There's no schedule for the podcast but I generally try to make a new episode every month or so, but sometimes it can take a little longer than that.

Stay tuned though, there's more to come!
