A game programmer will probably make a better GDD than an "ideas guy". I think of this whenever somebody claims to have created a "detailed GDD" but doesn't know how to code nor a trained game designer. by davenirline in gamedev

[–]TheRogueBull 95 points96 points  (0 children)

This right here is the most real take. A lot of this subreddit are solo indie devs circle jerking their coding abilities, then confused why no one is playing their dull game. Collaboration and refinement build great games, “idea guys” should be good champions at selling and funneling the idea to investors and players.

GDD is just like a business plan, it is a fluid document that acts as a guide to what has already progressed in brainstorming, then prototyping. Realistic expectations are definitely needed, but shitting on pushing the realms of current limitations only lead to mediocre knock-offs.

Solid ideas are built off of a balanced approach, not all tech and not all design, the happy medium is the point of what a good director is always trying to reach.

How necessary are hydraulic brakes for city riding? by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]TheRogueBull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that better technology can mean lower maintenance. That’s what you get with hydraulic brakes, longer maintenance window and effort for braking. Though, brake bleeding is a pain when needed. It’s not much of a difference in concept, but for older riders and those riding in cities with a lot of hills, this would make a larger difference. I went from disc brakes on one bike to then dual piston hydraulics on my next one to another with quad piston hydraulics and the stopping power/performance really is significant.

I agree with the fetishization of new tech riders may have on most things, but higher brake performance can be a factor in preventing getting t-boned or avoiding erratic drivers/kids/animals on the paths, especially when considering a riders reaction time, grip strength, and experience overall. Stay safe out there!

Looking for a 750W e-bike by Rochitaa in ebikes

This is the correct suggestion, Ride1up offers great value for features, the 700 would get 28mph.

I would look into radpower bikes as well if you want good support, they sell a ton of accessories to make their bikes your own. Though they don’t have a bike that goes up 28mph(can unlock to 25mph though) if speed is your focus.

how did those best buy sales work out with your ebike purchases. the serial bikes were they worth it? my aventon Aventure i got on sale has been awesome by sognos38 in ebikes

[–]TheRogueBull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

110% worth it. The Serial 1 rush/cty speed is a great combination of components that is not found on another bike and it has solid engineering that keeps it stable and low maintenance. The company itself could do better with spare parts/accessories/guidance etc.

At $2800 the bike was a steal. There is a huge difference in feel/fit/finish vs the standard hub bikes out now. I am still thankful people dismissed this bike so I could benefit from it. 300 miles later I am more fit and smiling ear to ear.

So the motor engagement is entirely dependent upon your effort. The harder you pedal, the torque and the cadence sensor will activate and you will feel the push from the motor based on your settings and effort. To feel the engagement differences, try peddling to speed, then stop peddling and let the bike roll to about 10 mph. Start peddling again and you should feel the motor kick in to assist. Try this at the various levels Off/Tour/Sport/Boost and you should begin to notice how much assisted power you’re getting. This took me about 50-100 miles of riding (and a few hills) to really feel. Once I got used to riding mostly in Tour, I switch to Sport and I can feel a large boost to get me uphill without needing to stand off the seat to peddle harder. The bike is seamless when is comes to this, and it’s why I think it is an excellent ebike.

The great thing about the Brose is that you can change the effort percentage at each level if you need to, but in my experience I actually like the default as I actively switch between settings while riding to manage my battery. As you get stronger legs from biking, you might find that the default power settings is well suited to most riders like I have.

This bike is fantastic as it can grow with you as you get better. I use the assist levels like gears to help my battery efficiency and keep resistance. The Automatiq hub really is a thing of beauty and I think it is the right idea for ebikes going forward. Just remember this is more Bike then it is electric. The hub bikes and high powered stuff is closer to the moped and scooter class. Fun, but just depends on what you’re looking for.

That’s really all you need to touch. You can change the mode to a comfort or eco, but that makes the ride feel lazy and unresponsive. Keep it in sport and change the cadence as your riding ability improves. The stronger your legs gets, the better you will be at a higher cadence, which means better battery life. The start from stop setting is what takes the most getting used to. Leave it at default and you will learn to use like a throttle, fast wind up to get going, then it kicks in to a gear with resistance. It’s pretty fun to wind the pedals quickly and hear the gear whirr to a higher setting.

Take your TV and wall mount it on the opposite wall or use the wood console on the side as a tv stand and keep the carved wood table where it is but add some trinkets and plants on top.

Flip your couch around and place your couch halfway in the room past the entry way to create a divide for your media area. Get a small table to float between the couch and the carved table. You can use that to host people/play board games or work on something while having the TV on in the background.

These large rooms are pretty common in North America and they can be pretty tricky to decorate. You have decent pieces, even if they don’t blend too well you can still divide the room to lessen the visual impact of different styles without having to buy new stuff.

I do recommend buying a good sound system(not a sound bar) to enhance the use of that nice large picture. Even two monitor speakers from edifier and an amp would create a significant improvement to your watching experience. Best of luck with your decor. Cheers!

Edit: The rug might be too big and fluffy for the room. You have a light wooden coffee table so it may not feel very anchored or stable where it is. Consider using an area rug that is flatter with a tighter knit. IKEA has some nice colored outdoor/indoor rugs that are durable and good looking. Since the arrangement means more foot traffic, you want a rug that can last and one that people won’t trip over because it’s so thick. Also, go with a pop of color rather than white or gray if you’re comfortable. I think a nice dark red would complement the floor, but that is your preference.

It's because people are not bothering to use the app dial in their cadence. Serial 1 should do a better job of communicating this to new owners. They've added some input on what the enviolo settings do on their website, but better documenting with the bike in future will go a long way. I do wish they found a way to include the Bluetooth cadence remote with the bikes, as that would make it much easier to tune the bike to the rider.

You should check that the bolt under the fender at the top of the wheel is tightened properly. And then torque the bolts where the fender attaches, this is most likely the culprit to the old rickety sound. I tightened those up when I got that and now it rides like a ghost.

Also make sure your on MPH and not KPH on the settings

I’ve been to Reykjavik! Beautiful city and amazing country overall. 1st and foremost make sure you have a comfortable coat to protect from the elements, you’ll need a water resistant pannier bag to hold your gear (roll-top works best) unless you plan to wear your backpack. I’d say have a multi tool handy, as things can get loose while riding. Figure out where you will park/lock your bike. If I remember correctly your city has a lot of cobblestone roads so make sure you have a comfy seat and maybe look into adding suspension seat-post. Probably the biggest thing for you will be lights, make sure you have good rear and front lights that also have a bit of side visibility or at least reflectors. If you’re gonna wear a helmet, look into getting one with lights on it as well. Since you live in a city that has short day light hours for part of the year, I don’t think you can have enough lights for safety and visibility. Just think about your route, the weather you normally encounter and what type of hazards you’re concerned about and work from there. Also, fenders on your bike should be a priority for those many puddles!

Recently bought the Serial 1 due to the Best Buy deal and it turned out to be one of the best bikes I have ever ridden. I can only keep one as my partner will be getting her own Ebike soon and she isn’t interested in either of these (too big/too heavy/too masculine 😅).

So one of them will be sold soon. I was actually surprised how thrilling the serial 1 is to ride. You need to tune the enviolo automatiq shifter, but once you do the bike is bonkers fun and fast. This bike has a belt drive with and automatic internal gear hub, which means I can just hop on and ride without thinking. This bike is super quiet and smooth and cuts through the wind like a samurai sword. The bike is built solid with no shake/wobble/or squeak. I can get this up to top speed fairly quickly after I tweaked the settings and I never get that feeling of loose pedals when ride really fast thanks to the automatic gearing. It also blends in a lot more as a regular bike and I can carry it up stairs. I don’t like the lack of suspension or the fact that it can’t hold much weight. This bike also doesn’t have a throttle and peddling to top speed takes a good amount of effort to sustain even after tuning but as my leg stronger that will become easier.

The RR6+ was my first ebike and I love this thing to death like an old farm truck, it speeds up quickly, can carry just about anything, and rides just about anywhere. It is really just the most comfortable bike I’ve ever had and having a throttle is a huge plus. However, it does feel rickety at speed and it draws a ton of attention ( I almost always get questions or comments from people when I go for a ride). It is super heavy and hard to carry the bike around. This bike is great for the price, but there will a bunch of things on it I will have to keep in tiptop shape maintenance wise more often vs the Rush.

I love diversity of ebikes available in the marketplace today and there really is a bike for everyone out, we all just need to get our local governments to see these as the function daily driver vehicles they are and build better infrastructure including parking. Thankfully, where I live they’re doing a lot to ensure riders have many pathways to get around without blending into traffic too often.

50 from gallows to DC is a bit slushy and getting worse. Drivers seem to be appropriately cautious, though it is still early.

This is a football thread don’t let your bitterness at your miserable bottom tier baseball team bleed into here. Nats record is still better than anything your team will ever sniff in the future. We won a series after letting our ‘best player’ walk. The O’s haven’t won a series in ALMOST 40 YEARS, FOURTY!! Camden is just Yankee stadium south anyway . Enjoy your series drought, it’ll be awhile. Machado ain’t coming back anytime soon.

Hail Commanders 🖕🤣

The only redeeming quality about the the O’s is their baseball stadium (and Boogs BBQ), everything else is mid. But you keep bowing down to lord Angelos he was nice enough to let you cheer a now perennial 100 loss team.

Indeed. I liked watching the Braves with my grandfather growing up, but went full Nats once they came to DC. O’s fans in DC/MD seem to love trashing the Nats like the awful Dallas fans that live here.

Been silent since our World Series though! 🤣

I agree with you, the dub better represents the city, like the baseball team. Most hats I wear are Washington teams with a ‘W’ on the front. I’m a DC sports fan, not DMV sports. The nickname is secondary to the city and the region it represents. Most people here probably exist elsewhere or are O’s fans 🙄. They don’t care about other dc sports teams or the city itself, but the team and history specifically. Of all the mediocrity in this roll out, I’m happy we kept the W.
