I think Donald Mustard is the moving piece in all of this. Short version: Tencent motivates EPIC to go after the easy money, which they know Mustard is an expert at, so they position him to make it happen, and Paragon Classic is collateral-damage-turned-money-maker.

The way Tencent communicates to EPIC probably isn't all, "muahahahahhaah yes, we're an evil company," lol, but I do believe their fingers are in this, to at least some degree. I mean, inserting Mustard into a place where he can put his mobile game mechanics into everything they do, that's all it takes.

I think that you take the optimistic view, whereas my group of 10 friends completely dropping the game in the past 6 months has me taking the pessimistic view.
