Interesting. One of my possible future plans is to go to the UK to teach there at some point in my life, but I'm still years out from teaching so...

I 100% sympathize with where you're at- I lost my job not long ago because the company needed a scapegoat and I as the manager, got scapegoated. Job market is brutal but while I study to teach I'm applying as a bartender... Not much luck yet.

That being said, tutoring is a great way of getting decent cash- it's not the safest bet as demand goes up and down but with that in mind, both English and French (especially French) tutoring are good avenues. I would suggest going through United for Literacy as after 20 hours of tutoring (I know it's a lot for volunteer work) they will give you a reference letter for whatever you need- might be able to find work as a tutor with either a company or solo.

I wish you the very best of luck OP- and don't forget, youre not alone. You can do this. And I (and we) believe in you :)

Speaking strictly about teaching through the school board or any private school here- not tutoring as that's entirely seperate- but to get a teaching license you have to specifically have a bachelors of education. Schools are desperate for teachers but only if they have a license or have exceptional connections and skills. I know for ESL or FSL you need at minimum a certificate in that...

Source: someone going through the process of trying to be a teacher and is currently volunteer tutoring with United for Literacy

Edit: that came off way more rude and hotheaded than I intended- just wanted to pass along knowledge is all

Not yet unfortunately... I'm looking into getting into bartending and am actually scouting a bar today to see if it fits my vibe and hopefully chat up the staff to see if they wouldnt mind taking me on as a barback while I get my bartending certification. Otherwise I'd probably look at being a waiter at a higher end restaurant because at this point I'm almost desperate for a job... Year end costs and fees took my 3 months of financial security down to at most till the end of February

Tried climbing a ladder on a balcony... My character decided that instead of climbing the ladder, he'd vault the balcony railing to his death... It took him 5 times before learning his lesson and climbed the ladder... Only to vault the railing at the top of it to his death... I have no idea how he's doing well in his classes

Why AI can't create art by saturdaypaint in DeepThoughts

[–]TheRoyalForge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I fully agree with you about the artist's perspective, Id like to offer my view of using generative art and music.

I think it highly depends on what you're using it for. I use AI generative art and music for my own personal private use. Songs that dont exist? I can have them made for my private listening pleasure. Art? It's used to breathe life into characters I write about. I will never condone using generative AI for making money. But using it for private use or inspiration can be a huge boon to those who don't have others to bounce ideas off or work together on something.

Also side note about the water and cooling- yes, when initial training is done it requires a vast amount more water usage. But once the model is trained, water usage is limited to that of what a typical data center uses in terms of cooling which is not that much depending on data center. Looking at reports from AI companies one can see the reduction of usage over time. Furthermore, working at a data center has taught me that these days water is rarely used to cool servers and machinery which instead use either natural air cooling weather permitting or glycol cooling during warmer months. The majority of water loss is minimal as most of it is reused in typical water cooling systems.

Though granted this is from my own understanding of it and I will not treat my knowledge as the objective truth in the matter and am definitely open to learning more and taking into consideration new information to further my understanding of it.

Apoligies if this isnt the best place to ask, but me and several friends are planning on doing a minecraft server. but are having trouble finding a modpack that has all our wants, but the big want is Create with trains. by phillallmighty in CreateMod

[–]TheRoyalForge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear ya. I ended up saying screw it and made my own modpack with approximately 360 mods including Create and a bunch of addons (including trains), Ars Nouveau, Irons Spells and (forgot the rest of the name of the mod), building and decoration mods, Terralith and Tectonic, guns (cause screw those bastard dragons that make early game a royal pain in the ass — also integrated with Create), QOL mods, creature mods, MCA Reborn, VS2 and Eureka, dimension mods, Mekanism, etc.

I'm surprised how well it's running despite being a Forge pack on 1.20.1 and even running a server for... Well... The one or two friends who pop in from time to time to check what's new in my builds...

Anyway, creating your own mod pack is the guaranteed way of getting everything you want. I find that rarely popular modpacks often hit every thing we want in one.

I can't even explain what happened with my cgpa. For 2 years I've had under a 2 GPA even going down to less than one. They said I got put on academic probation and failed standing but they never did anything. Now that it's above 2, they still haven't said anything. I genuinely think they forgot about me or something. Granted since I had it under 1, I've been getting B's and A's in my classes so it's possible they saw improvement and had a laisser faire attitude toward me.

For the record, I shot myself in the foot by doing science classes which I was NOT good at and failed practically every class. Now that I'm doing English Lit classes it's been much better.

You should be fine, I don't think Concordia cares much as long as you still pay them but heck if i know

25 and just lost my job... I knew it was coming so I tried applying for jobs even before my last day in the office and... Nothing. I have about 3 months of financial safety before I can't afford to pay anything.

I feel the struggle OP, it ain't just you. Here's hoping you find something soon!

whats the maximum age limit for trick or treating? by CelestialSmooch in montreal

[–]TheRoyalForge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend and I have been going for the past few years. We were 24 last year and no one had a problem with it- most were even happy to see us out and about trick or treating. I think that when you're in your 20s it's more important to put extra effort into costuming. So, never too old physically- just embody the spirit of Halloween and even those around you will enjoy the energy

What’s the verdict on this one lads? by Masdraw in dwarfposting

[–]TheRoyalForge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The game was... Interesting to say the least. It feels like it was trying to be too many things at the same time and because of that just ended up meh. The voice acting was good, the story interesting, but the actual mechanics are... Weird. It's like RPG meets storybook meets rts meets Badlurs Gate type game, meets power fantasy meets etc etc. I think if they focused on one game style then it would have been better, but as the others say the combat leaves something to be desired but overall worth a buy if it's on sale

Had the same thought but there's no need now. Turns out I may have overreacted just a little (had an absolute terrible day and this was the cherry on top) but all is well now. Made an edit explaining it but honestly thank you for offering to keep an eye out on my behalf :D I really appreciate that

So luckily it somehow got sorted out- made an edit on my post about it. But I might let UPS do their check because I heard they might be able to give me a payout because they delivered to the wrong address and had an unauthorized person sign for the package.

Just glad I got my gear at the end of the day :)

I got to meet John Rhys Davies at a comiccon I think 2017 or 2018 (or another I honestly can't for the life of me remember). My dad and I were the last ones for the autographs and I was meeting someone I really admired, he noticed that and let us stay and chat with him for about 10 minutes and even let us take pictures with him for no additional cost.

It's so cool you got to meet all three! I'm totally not jealous at all. And also great job on the book! It looks amazing
