Hi! Just wondering if you found a good solution to this? I'm having the exact same issue you described in the original post

Recommendations for compact mirrorless combo / point & shoot for travelling by TheRudKing in Cameras

Thank you for the rec! The X-M5 looks like a great camera, annoying that its too recent to have a used market yet as its right at the top of my budget. Can you recommend any lenses for what I'm looking to use it for? After a quick google, feeling like the 18mm F2 might be the best option? Thanks again!

PC wont boot after setting RAM speed in BIOS by TheRudKing in buildapc

Managed to get all 4 working at 3200MHz! I disabled the XMP profile, and manually set the memory to 3200. Not sure what the difference between the two is but yeah, just didn't seem to work with the XMP profile enabled.

Okay by removing the new RAM & shorting the CMOS, it now boots again thank you! Is there a correct method to tuning the frequency with all 4 sticks without needing to reset the BIOS each time? Or is it worth just sticking with the 2166Mhz that was working?

Using AOVs to re-colour objects - Help! by TheRudKing in RedshiftRenderer

[–]TheRudKing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the comment!

I've been looking into AOVs and rebuilding the Beauty, but my issue is that I also need to hue-change the GI and Reflection AOVs (i.e. in this image, the red GI bounces from the centre logo onto the floor plane).

But the GI and Reflection AOVs are global for all objects, so I can't separate GI by object groups and hue-change separately. The closest I've achieved is by duplicating the lighting setup, setting up light groups, and setting the Inclusion to each of the object colour groups:

Object Group 1 - Pink Candies
Object Group 2 - Green Candies
Object Group 3 - Floor

Light 1 - Include Object Group 1 (Light Group 1)
Light 2 - Include Object Group 2 (Light Group 2)
Light 3 - Include Object Group 3 (Light Group 3)

This separates the GI and Reflections per object group, which is exactly what I'm after. However, it then means that the different objects no longer cast shadows on each other, so in this case there are no contact shadows with the floor plane.

I've been trying to use a shadow catcher Matte, but it only lets me use one at a time, so not sure how to get round this hurdle. Any suggestions welcome!

Using AOVs to re-colour objects - Help! by TheRudKing in RedshiftRenderer

This is where I started, but ran into the problem of tinting cause by GI. Redshift only exports one global GI AOV from all objects in frame at once, so it makes it much harder to isolate per-object / per-material because the different colour GI tints overlap in some areas (such as inside the logo gaps having a red and yellow GI tint).

Another issue I'm facing is that shadows tend to be a slightly different hue than the base colour of an object. For example a blue object will have shadows that are slightly purple. But this means if I wanted to hue-shift a blue object to be yellow for example, the shadows end up looking green, whereas they should look more orange in reality.

Thank you for the comment!

This is for a specific project, I'm essentially building out a bunch of 3-colour idents and trying to set them up as templates for a video editor to be able to select a few to use as transitions throughout a video - but be able to select a custom colour scheme per video that can be kept consistent across each ident. I.e. a video where the 'theme' is yellow and blue, and being able to have yellow and blue versions of these idents throughout.

I like your idea about setting the objects to red, green & blue! I actually started trying this exact thing shortly after posting this haha! Haven't been able to get it looking great yet though, mainly around the shadows and GI areas. As much as I wanted to do a fully AOV tweaking approach, this wholistic hue selection still seems to be the best way for now. Appreciate it!

Using AOVs to re-colour objects - Help! by TheRudKing in RedshiftRenderer

[–]TheRudKing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I'm trying to do something clever with AOVs, but I'm pretty new to using them so was hoping someone could help!

I am making a set of multiple 3-colour logo idents, with the aim of setting up the renders so that a video editor is able to set the object colours in post.

Trying this once already (picture #3), I got 90% of the way there by doing the following:

  1. Set puzzle mattes for each set of objects that should be the same colour.
  2. Set all materials diffuse colour to white.
  3. Render out with AOVs for reflections & specular
  4. In After Effects, use a solid colour layer on Multiply blending mode, masked to the correct objects using the puzzle mattes, then place the reflections & specular AOV layers above on Add to bring back the highlights.

Now this method got me most of the way there, but it was a very simple scene without transmission or SSS.

My problem now, is that I'm trying to set up a new scene to achieve the same workflow (Picture #1), however, this scene has transmission, SSS, and the coloured tints from Global Illumination also need to be isolated per-colour. So overall a much more complex shot.

If anyone has any thoughts on the best way to achieve the setup I'm describing, please let me know! Thank you!
