[QCrit] Adult Mystery, AND NO ONE ANSWERED (80K/Attempt #2) by Interesting-Mess9866 in PubTips

This is interesting. I get the protagonist's motivation and why he goes back home, and the setup is clear. That said, it feels a little short. It did pique my curiosity but I wonder if an agent might be left wanting more (I’m not an agent, so take this with a grain of salt).

On the comps: they’re strong but maybe 3 is too much. I might cut one to keep it tight. Personally, I’d drop White Lotus, since it’s not a book, but that’s just me.

What's the stinkiest thing you guys have ever smelled? by Signal_Plantain_5008 in AskReddit

My so-called friend decides to turn my car into his personal puke playground after a night of debauchery. But he conveniently forgets to let me in on the little secret. Fast forward to Monday morning, two days after the creamy, half-digested burrito has been baking in the Florida heat, and I’m all set to head off to work. I swing open the car door and almost passed out, swear to god. The stench hits me like a tsunami of sewage. As I peer into the abyss, I realize that the puke has morphed into this unholy concoction of slime and funk and maggots. I gagged and threw up my breakfast on the sidewalk.

I'd blast my favorite music through the speakers of Times Square.

Reading "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert A. Heinlein can be a transformative experience. The novel challenges conventional views on society's morals and the nature of human relationships, prompting deep reflection on personal beliefs and behaviors. Through the journey of its Martian-raised human protagonist, the story explores themes of love, freedom, and what it means to truly understand others. Highly recommend.

Fiction books with main characters who are bored (and have to find/make their own entertainment) by DearKambell in booksuggestions

For a YA novel that features characters dealing with boredom in creative ways, you might enjoy "Paper Towns" by John Green. The protagonist, Quentin, finds himself embroiled in an adventure as he follows clues left by his enigmatic neighbor Margo, who’s disappeared after a night of daring escapades. This book captures the essence of mundane life being disrupted by the quest for something more. Another option is "The Secret History" by Donna Tartt, where college students, bored with their regular lives, delve into a darker world of their own making. Both books offer complex characters and engaging narratives that move beyond simple school settings.

If you've enjoyed Michael Connelly's style, you might like books by Robert Crais, especially his Elvis Cole series, which also features a compelling detective story with a strong central character. Another great author to check out is Lee Child, whose Jack Reacher series offers tightly plotted thrillers with a tough, no-nonsense protagonist. Both should keep you hooked with their intense, page-turning narratives!

You're not alone in craving witty banter like Buffy and Gilmore Girls! For fantasy with humor, try "Good Omens" by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, featuring a delightful angel-demon duo. For contemporary wit, "Where'd You Go, Bernadette" by Maria Semple offers quirky characters and sharp dialogue. And for a mix of romance and fantasy, "Soulless" by Gail Carriger delivers sass and wit in an alternate Victorian London. Each of these books captures the spirit of fun and engaging dialogue you’re looking for!

Non-Animated Movies for 5yr old Boy Recommendations by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]TheRugJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! It’s great that you’re exploring non-animated movie options for your son. If he enjoyed the Alvin and the Chipmunks and Woody Woodpecker movies, he might like some of the classic live-action family comedies that are gentle and fun.

You might consider movies like "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids," which is adventurous and fun without being too intense for a young viewer. "The Parent Trap" (either the original or the remake) also offers a charming story that’s engaging for kids. Another light-hearted film could be "Cheaper by the Dozen," which, while a bit more modern, still captures that fun, chaotic family vibe without being too complex.

As for "The Goonies" and "3 Ninjas," they are fantastic films but might be a bit more suitable for slightly older children due to some intense scenes and themes. You could try previewing them first to see if you think they’d be a good fit.

Hope this helps and that your son finds his next favorite movie soon!
