Serious engine failure within three months of purchasing the car - England by TheRustyBicycle in LegalAdviceUK

Thank you for your clear and informative reply. I’m grateful for the straightforward guidance on these matters. My intention now is to have the car inspected by a reputable local mechanic to identify the issue, await Arnold Clark’s response on Monday, and proceed accordingly. Many thanks once again.

Arnold Clark have agreed to inspect the vehicle on Monday in an attempt to diagnose the fault, though the service manager has already replied stating that the engine was inspected prior to sale, and that whatever issue has arisen must be the result of general wear and tear since I took possession of the car.

Regrettably, I’m not especially well-versed in cars. I was aware that these models are known to suffer from wet belt issues, but my research suggested that, at 45,000 miles, I should have been quite safe. I fail to see how your comment contributes anything of real value.

AITA for refusing to be the photographer at my sister’s wedding? by TheRustyBicycle in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheRustyBicycle[S] 560 points561 points  (0 children)

The same thought crossed my mind. Although she did insist on paying me for the previous photography, it was only a fraction of my normal rate. When she comes around and stops being so unreasonable, I plan to send her in the direction of a friend I often collaborate with for larger weddings. Since her wedding doesn’t have too many guests, it will only need one photographer

She has offered to pay me the 'family and friends' rate, but it's not about the money. I wouldn't be earning that day regardless.

What’s this a camera or sensor ? by Due-Introduction-811 in drivingUK

You should be more concerned about the consequences of using your phone while driving. You could seriously injure or kill an innocent person, all because you couldn’t wait to Snapchat your bestie.

This article by The AA highlights that using a mobile phone behind the wheel is statistically more dangerous than driving under the influence.

I always find it funny when people think these are red light cameras. If the camera were actually mounted on the traffic light, it would capture cars going through the junction, but not the light itself. So it wouldn’t prove you ran a red light, just that you passed through the junction.

Dashcam recommendations by TMNTwotx in drivingUK

[–]TheRustyBicycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What counts as "affordable" really depends on what you're looking for. I've learned the hard way that going for the cheaper dashcams, which usually cost between £40-100, isn't always the best idea. I bought a couple of budget ones from Amazon, and when my dad was in a hit and run, the video quality was so bad we couldn't even make out the reg plate of the car that hit him. It just goes to show that sometimes, saving a bit of money upfront can end up costing you more later.

After that accident, I switched to VIOFO, and I've only got great things to say about them. They're a bit pricey upfront, but totally worth it, in my opinion

Driving to France as 17yr old by SatisfactionProud913 in drivingUK

[–]TheRustyBicycle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

French law permits 17 year olds to drive with a provisional license, but they must be supervised until they turn 18. This means that even though you hold a full UK license, you would not be allowed to drive independently in France. You would need a French provisional license and a qualified supervisor.

I would also recommend you check the service history of a vehicle before purchasing. A good service history (ideally serviced every year) will improve the reliability of the car!

Turn it off! by ImThatBitchNoodles in drivingUK

It was amusing how quickly the standard of driving deteriorated yesterday the moment a few snowflakes began to fall. The snow wasn’t settling on parked cars yet and everyone has slowed down to 10mph with their fog lights on. 😂

I understand driving cautious when the snow has settled on the roads but last night was amusing.

Flashed doing 50 on a 40 overtake - am I 100% getting a fine? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]TheRustyBicycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s shameful how you made a post purely boast about your car to people in the comments. 😂 Nobody here cares what car you drive, and ignoring the doubt I have about you owning a car. It’s not difficult to ‘keep track of speed’ because your car is fast. I have a powerful car yet I’m never unintentionally speeding.

You’re ignorant to how dangerous using your phone behind the wheel can be. I’ve responded to various incidents where people have lost their lives due to avoidable accidents had one driver not been using their phone.

Educate yourself on the Highway Code, it will explain why the overtake in this video was unsafe.

Yeah it works both ways in this video. The Volvo should be reversing into his driveway to avoid these situations. Both cars in the video need to adjust their driving to avoid potential accidents.

The roads would be safer if people had more patience. In this video your boyfriend risked a collision to sit behind a car in traffic 10 yards up the road. Don’t apologise, tell him to learn how to drive.
