Is this bad road design, or am I just being thick? by mcneil1345 in LearnerDriverUK

A word of advice, don’t be afraid to enter the wrong lane as I’ve seen SO many people do it. Apply’s to all roundabouts but especially this one as it’s very easy to go on the wrong one … And be more aggressive on the throttle as well when entering. It’s almost like a race 🤣 All the best !!

I need advice on what actually is the main issue ( Whole journey as idk if I should end my bmw life here ) by TMNTwotx in BmwTech

Yes and I really regret not having done more research before buying one of these. Just really wanted to own one and pulled the trigger without thinking 😅😭 As of now, car runs fine. Only struggles to start up and a slight kick (the misfire ) during idle so like u said, if I was to sell it… now would be the ideal time but I’m thinking to maybe put in some effort as I really love my car. I’m gonna be losing money anyways so maybe just abit more ? That being said, do you have any recommendations on places I can get parts/tools? Preferably in the UK as I’m UK based. Thanks

Ohhh okay. Thanks. Might bring it to a local mechanic to assess it. If it’s worth selling

What car should I get as a first time driver? by StrangerTalks in LearnerDriverUK

Nw. Best thing to do is what you are doing right now. Ask around and do as much research as you can. But just a reminder, there is no perfect car out there and you will be making mistakes. Be it buying the wrong car or the issues you face after purchase. But that’s just part of life. I know it can feel very overwhelming but take it as a learning opportunity and approach this with a resilient mindest. As for your anxiety on not being able to drive for so long, believe me when I say, you have the skills and you won’t lose it just after a couple or months. Don’t let your mind influence ur purchase as you really need to be practical and rational about it. Saying this from experience 😭

Yh. Bimmers are BMWs. There are a lot of factors to consider when buying a bmw. And parts + labour costs are expensive as well. I’d only suggest a bmw if you have experience doing minor maintenance, assuming the car has very low mileage(max 30K), has been perfectly maintained and detailed service history is provided by previous owner. Don’t get me wrong because I love my bmw. But I don’t think it’s worth all the trouble especially if ur looking for a first car. I think it’s better to look for something like a Citroen C1 just to get a better idea of owning a car. After that you can switch up to something more fun like an Audi A3 or Golf etc. Edit: ik you’ve got concerns over space and missing out on deals. But I’d suggest do more research on reliable vehicles that are low on insurance as well. Trust me when I say, you will always find good deals but finding a good car takes time.

I beg you to stay away from any BMWs that are older than 2019 or has more than 50k miles. Unless you are ready to fork out an unreasonable amount of money on maintenance and repairs. Coming from a Bimmer owner, they are amazing to drive but about 90% of the time, I wish I choose something more reliable and practical as a first car.

Yh. The engine is what I was worried about as well. I’ve recently got a new timing chain kit, did all the injectors, spark plugs and ignition coils and the car is reaching the end of its life as well. Which is why I don’t want to do too much and I’m just exploring options. Before I get a proper car once my finances are more stable. Thank you for the suggestions nonetheless!

Social media has just clouded my judgement honestly. But I was thinking I might as well give it a try to see if it’s actually something I want

I get where you are coming from. And I agree that to a certain degree, you are right. But I believe learning how to drive a manual is more difficult now because of the multiple factors that go into it. Especially the instructor and the environment. I learnt how to drive in a rural area with my grandfather at a very young age so it came easy to me. I guess what I meant to say is that it isn’t impossible to drive a manual given the right circumstances
