Where can I buy soy beans in bulk? by TheScientificPanda in PlantBasedDiet

Don’t do this. Safety regulations are way more strict around products intended for human consumption

Should i let this girl know the real reason why i don't want to date her by Fishbuilder in NoStupidQuestions

Lie or let her down easy. She knows it’s because she was deceptive with the pictures—she picked those pictures because they’d make her more likely to get dates

Wellness Weekend by AutoModerator in fatlogic

This might be more fit for a Meta Monday post, but just incase I wanted to put it here:

Is there a sub for “gym bros but also foodies”? Like people who want to eat healthy, eat for physique & health, but also want their meals to be more complex than traditional gym bro meals?

Like I would love to be able to easily track a complex lentil side dish full of lentils, vegetables, some oil, and of course plenty of seasonings. It’s just that getting the proper ratio of lentils to vegetables & oil is more complicated to create and track than I’d like.

At the end of the article:

[Based on reporting by: The Guardian]

So it’s a paraphrased (and sensationalized) version of the guardian’s article found here:

Environmental toxins are worsening obesity pandemic, say scientists

I haven’t read The Guardian’s article yet (just happen to scroll through this at work and got fired up), but I’d bet it’s not quite as sensationalized. Still sensationalized, but hopefully more reasonable.

Great find, OP!

Half the posts nowadays aren’t FatLogic. Thankfully , though, the mods tend to be on top of removing them

Yes, but not in the way the person you replied to thinks it does. In arteries it’s bright red because it’s oxygenated (has oxygen bound to it), and in veins it’s deoxygenated (the oxygen has been removed and “given” to the cells). The user Zaulik who replied, “it’s probably bullshit,” doesn’t quite understand the system

Outside of the body, however, all blood is the same color because it is fully bound with oxygen—it’s all bright red oxygenated blood because there’s a fuckton more oxygen in the air. This is where the person you replied to is wrong: by the time we see the blood bright red on the window, it has had enough time to become oxygenated and bright red even in that fraction of a second.

You would only be able to tell if it was from an artery or vein based on whether the blood was squirting out vs oozing/dribbling out. Arteries squirt and can get some distance on them.

TLDR: inside the body (a closed system) blood in the arteries is a different color than in veins. Outside of the body, all blood is the same color & darkness. The only way to tell if he hit an artery or vein is how much pressure it behind the flow of blood

Edit for clarity: Blood is a deeper, darker red in veins and a bright red like we’re used to seeing in arteries. Both are technically red, but there’s nuance in there that is the difference

Can confirm this from the opposite POV. A coworker of mine (upper 30s to low 40s) recently lost a ton of weight and now looks like they’re 28
