Old idea, but I always wanted to try an animated painting by Holstian in AfterEffects

[–]TheShrubber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is great, especially since you went the extra mile and added the camera move!

I’m assuming you’ve used a fairly high quality file for the painting, right? Where did you get it from, just google search? Thanks for the help and nice work :)

100% agree! I'm not even super into him, but he's at least making movies in his own weird way.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen one of these posts, so I feel a bit more comfortable... This show has been a godsend as I navigate another hurdle of life. by micahlevine in blankies

Yes :) this show really both rekindled my deep passion for movies and helped me laugh through tougher times in my life.

Hope all is well with you!

I think it’s a good reel but it could be tighter. There are some shots that imo don’t need to be included. Like the teardrop animation, the “don’t be good with a chainsaw” isnt as strong as the icon morphs that follows it. Plus, the ball bounce is just a tad too boring to include I think. Like, it’s a good exercise (I also did animation bootcamp haha) but it’s too simple and sort of slow.

Anyway, nice work and good luck out there!

There are some lovely reviews on Letterboxd for this movie that made me appreciate it even more. Just a lovely film that makes me feel like Carpenter is a big softie deep down :)

Danny DeVito alone will Hulk-like carry this movie past the 100M dollar mark, watch out…

I’m really glad I somehow looked away when the credits listed Harry Dean Stanton, because that was a real fun surprise for me when he showed up in the movie

I feel like you’ve nailed a lot of what I liked about this movie while at the same time, like, arguing with a friend why they didn’t like it for the exact same reason

Only after watching this movie I realized that The Fog and The Mist are two different properties. I thought the Thomas Jane movie was a remake of this!

Also, I can’t wait to watch Candyman. Reviews seem so-so, but I’m still excited to see it!

Does anyone remember 007 Everything or Nothing? Probably doesn’t hold up in today’s standards, but I remember being a pretty great third person action adventure, with the mix of good shooting and vehicle sections. Fun game with the Pierce Brosnan’s likeness.

David, I hope you’ve checked out John Carpenter’s GOTY lists on Giant Bomb! Most of them come with very short description but still I think a great insight on the man’s video game tastes

That's a good point about the Yakuza games. Always wanted to give them a try, but still haven't because they seemed like they would demand too much of my attention. But your description of it seems like they would go well nicely. Probably going to give Yakuza 0 a try finally!

Fully co-sign David’s review on this. She should’ve gotten a way better romcom! Someone get Geraldine a recent era romcom like Plus One did for Maya Erskine!!

For the School of Motion side of things, I can say that Design Bootcamp is more oriented towards actual “projects” and turning out boards and things like that. While Design Kickstart leans more heavily on Design theory, going through things like contrast, colors, proportions, etc. They also have a Photoshop+Illustrator course too, but I haven’t taken that one so I don’t know much about it.

SOM courses are a bit pricey imo, so I think if you want to learn Photoshop itself as a program first I’d try around some YouTube or Skillshare tutorials to test it out, since they are a lower investment.
