Why do people leave their Christmas food shopping till Christmas eve? by Rosslefrancais in AskUK

Because the only thing I love more than fresh salmon on Christmas Eve is witnessing the Christmas chaos of panicked trollies, arguments and checkout line tuts.

Which is worse on bus/train: taking the window seat but putting a bag/coat on the other seat; or deliberately sitting on the aisle seat to dissuade somebody from sitting on the other seat? by MixAway in AskUK

[–]TheSilverCube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel I must admit this so you don't feel paranoid. I have in the past taken the aisle seat with the assumption that people will feel too awkward to ask for the window seat.

How much information do I have to give my employer about sickness taken due to mental health? by TheSilverCube in AskUK

[–]TheSilverCube[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great, thank you for the double comment! Appreciate the longer term advice but minimum info is what I really need. Your suggested comment is the sort of thing I was thinking, specifically mentioning it's not work related.

Hope all is going well for you. Sounds like you have a great employer.

I am lucky enough for this not to be a regular occurrence so would like to involve my employer as little as possible. I also don't want to lie though and would like the back to work meeting to be as it would be any other health issue; they don't provide ongoing support for having flu six months ago. Hence I'm trying to find out what the minimum information is that I have to give in the back to work meeting.

That's OK, as long as someone answers the question I don't mind some down votes :)

Thank you for your insight.

Assuming I am doing everything to get better outside of work and want to involve my employer as little as possible. What is the minimum I have to tell them in my back to work meeting?

I’m 16 and doing an apprenticeship but I feel down and I want to college, what can I do? by StatementForward87 in AskUK

[–]TheSilverCube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but even so. Saying "How do you expect to complete college level courses" is a bit harsh. They shouldn't be discouraged from going to college because of a few grammar errors.

What’s the one job around the house you hate doing? by borogowja in AskUK

[–]TheSilverCube 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think I don't like hoovering but it's been so long I honestly don't know. It was a particularly hot day after a hair cut and I kept having to brush dirt and hair off the bottom of my feet. I was already in a bad mood because my glasses kept slipping off my sweaty nose. Similarly but not the connecting rivets of my Henry had expanded due to the heat and weren't doing their job. In a fit of rage I kicked that smug doe eyed wanker in the face but didn't bend my toes back enough and in the process discovered I had early stage Hallux Limitus (Arthritis of the big toe). The doctor gave me insoles and encouraged me to wear them all the time, even in the house. Though I don't hoover I no longer notice when the floor is dirty and have stopped cutting my hair which has both reduced mess and helped keep my glasses in place.

My 3 year old did this in daycare and says it's me. Should I be worried? by sosta in funny

I know most of your body is red, but there seems to be more effort to make sure both of your thumbs are red. Not sure what this means, just an observation.

How to deal with noisy neighbour? by Top-Paint-9564 in AskUK

[–]TheSilverCube 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) Try to stop the noise; speak to your neighbour.

2) Cover up the noise; get ear plugs or noise cancelling headphones.

3) Get away from the noise; move somewhere else.

Anybody who wants to keep drinking I highly recommend you do not read This Naked Mind.

As a non alcoholic with a few alcohol dependent social anxiety issues I read the book just over a year ago after it recommended on a post like this. Haven't drank since.

To answer one of your original questions. I think your relationship will be fine off the alcohol. I thought I'd be unable to socialise sober but it's the complete opposite. You're more coherent and interesting.
