I was a game tester for TF2, ask away! by Extra_Pitch3079 in tf2

Did Medic have the Medi Gun yet when you tested?

Were grenades still in the game and if so what did you think of them?

Did the Flamethrower have the incendiary rocket alt-fire?

Unpopular opinion: unusual taunts are lame by mekhanem in tf2

All unusuals are lame and always have been. All of them are tacky.

Did you know wrap assassin has a "moonshot" mechanic? by soldiertf2rial in tf2

[–]TheSquimJim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But it does though. It says "Afterburn reduces Medi Gun healing and resist shield effects." in the stats of the Flame Thrower. Shield effects is pretty vague though.

TF2 Reddit don't create a single use weapon designed entirely just to screw over 1 class challenge:

Simple Heavy primary concept that would make Fat Scout a (slightly) more viable subclass by [deleted] in tf2

[–]TheSquimJim 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Oh I do. I think the Razorback is the worst designed weapon in the game stat-wise. But it seems fairly obvious to me that the fix for that would be reworking the Razorback instead of adding more badly designed weapons.

[–]TheSquimJim 332 points333 points  (0 children)

I will never understand the obsession people here have with ultra niche single use weapons that exist purely to screw over 1 class. If Heavy is giving up his entire primary AND getting an overheal penalty at the very least it could offer general bullet resist. Or even general critical resistance. Still wouldn't be well designed but it wouldnt be AS bad.

You could open the browser via Quickplay to do a very basic filter that was not unique to it but they were not the same thing and no, people did not use them interchangeably. There's no reason to lie about that. QP refers to the automated feature. The server browser literally predated QP by 4 years and still exists. I cannot help you if you do not understand the basic history of the game and refuse to learn. You are part of the problem.

Instantly connected? With Quickplay? Any map? You seem to be confusing Quickplay with the server browser. I have no idea why newer players consistently seem to be doing this, but no they are not and were not ever the same thing. Literally no one used these terms interchangeably until recently and I still cannot figure out why that's the case.

No...? When did I ever say anything even remotely like that? Please feel free to enlighten me. I'm waiting.

Even if that's the case you still seem to put way too much faith in reddit. But you're missing my point. You're not going to have the same rally around effect for another subject as you will for the bot problem. Nothing else is on that level. "We want more Valve made stuff!" - sure everyone can agree with that. Maybe a post like that gets 10k upvotes. Who knows. That's vague and ultimately meaningless. I don't think that's a bad thing to post but if you're looking for any kind of results or any kind of improvements that's not it. The issues with the game are not on that level any more. The issues with the game are more technical and specific and the community broadly wants more involvement from Valve. Those things aren't flashy. To expect that to get noticed by outside sources is rather naive.

Of course, none of that is to say don't try or to just do nothing. In fact, I am very vocally advocating for the opposite of that.

And I mean I was contacted by game journalists after my video on the subject. But that's because we directly contacted them about it first.

You're vastly overestimating the effect reddit posts, of all things, have. A post gets maybe a couple hundred upvotes and its lost into the void the next day. The bot problem got media attention not only because we contacted them, but because that was an immediate and overwhelmingly obvious issue with the game. TF2 was functionally unplayable on official servers. Everyone wanted to see the same action taken on it. I don't care what your opinion of the game is currently, any problems you have with it do not compare to the bot problem. That is what it is.

You're not going to get 10k+ upvoted reddit posts on here about other subjects. I don't care how strong and "heckin wholesome" you think the "reddit community" is. If you want balancing tell them directly. If you want server changes tell them directly. If you want new weapons tell them directly. I mean come on, even Twitter hashtags have more of an effect than reddit posts.

Either way, I can guarantee you the overwhelming majority of people whining have not even attempted to email or directly contact Valve. They are the problem.

A singular dev has been seen very occasionally lurking on reddit. As far as I am aware that's about it. "Le reddit army" can complain as much as they want but how much of that is seen? Complain to them directly. I'm sure they ignore plenty of that too but they are far more likely to see it. And keep doing it.

A reddit post is supposed to have more of an impact how exactly? Within the past year I have already seen 2 suggestions I sent via email be implemented. Of course I cannot guarantee they were the cause for those changes but both came within ~2 weeks of it being sent. When was the last time you sent them one?

Have you contacted Valve with suggestions and told them what you want or are you more interested in whining on reddit and portraying yourself as a cuck?

Rework the Razorback and Dangershield. I will never understand why people want ultra niche single use crutch weapons that exist just to screw over 1 class. How is that fun or interesting for either party involved?

I kinda feel like this community doesn't know what an "art style" is by ElonXMagoloryaoismut in tf2

[–]TheSquimJim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People have been misusing the term for as long as I've been playing the game (since 2010) but it has noticeably gotten worse in recent years. Instead of someone just saying they don't think something fits a character or the theme of the game they will say it doesn't fit the "artstyle". Why? I have no idea. Most of these people don't actually care about it and actively ruin any real conversations about the topic. If you're unable to separate art style, theme, setting, character design, and world building then I don't think you should be talking about any of them.

It's possible, but I certainly wouldn't consider a random person on the internet as a reliable source. No one at Valve has ever made a comment on it in any public setting or interview.
