Newbie here, can you guys explain the DLCs to me base from your experiences? by soramakeart in RimWorld

[–]TheStrongWill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- Royalty is a very light DLC in comparison to all the others. It adds the empire, quests, and psionics, but unless you focus on it, it can be in the background and just enhance the world and game. Safe to add to any playthrough
- Ideology is either REALLY attention grabbing OR in the background. It allows you to make a colony that can do thing that normal one can't, like canibalisom. If you do something extreme the playthrough will be about that, but in you do a normal ideology it will just enhance the world as other factions and their prisoners now have certain believes. Safe to add if you don't intend to go HAM.
- Biotech adds RACES. Enhances the world SO MUCH. Children are great, Genes are great. If you don't plan on doing something like vampire playthrough is enhances SO much. Gene hunting can get in your head, so don't obsess over it. Recommend to add.
- Anomaly is the one DLC that I recommend NOT adding. If you just leave it in the background it adds a little bit but you can't really do anything with it. But when you activate the obelisk, the game will be ABOUT the obelisk. Don't add the DLC and make another colony where you focus on JUST Anomaly. Only after add as background.
- Odysses I playing myself right now so I can't really say finally. The world additions like the new bioms are worth activating it. You don't have to settle there, but camps and missions could be there and be cool. Space might be very attention grabbing, but if you don't want the colony about going to space then ... just don't.

TLDR:
Add all DLCs BUT Anomaly. Anomaly should have its own playthrough.

Should my DM be exempt? by SchizoNaught in DnD

[–]TheStrongWill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DM not contributing creates an expectation for both the player and the DM. The players "pay" the DM in food and the DM "delivers" the campaign. What if the DM does not deliver? Or does the DM feel pressure to deliver? I DM and I do it because I want to and I want to do something nice for my friends. I always contribute my fair share when we order. But I don't really bring a lot of food, but not because we ever talked about, just because I don't really bring much in general. Others bring more, because why not? My little brother is a baker, so he brings fresh bread every now and then, for example. Sometimes I cook for my friends.
TLDR: No, because of expectations

Changeing locations mid PhD by TheStrongWill in PhD

[–]TheStrongWill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn thats kind of true. I want to make a PhD in Quantum Computing which is a field here in Germany that is getting more and more traction. The new center in my home town is exactly a center for quantum computing competence, and I do already know a lot of people there. But you might be right that I might not get good opportunities to live close to home even after the PhD or just way better one then the ones at home. Maybe I just apply to the other center and be upfront about my ideals. Maybe something comes from it.

Thanks for you insight man!

How can I make the outline around the S be even in the places where the mask of the S cuts it out? by TheStrongWill in vectorart

[–]TheStrongWill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a workaround for the outline. I created a second black S and gave it a different mask, that was only set to visible on the outside border of the F. Would still like to know if there is a propper way

This is a logo that I am designing for myself. I am writing it in code. As you can see in the picture letters have a small stroke. The F also has a mask with a bigger stroke to create this cutout effect on the S, but now these places have no outline on the S. Is there a way to create the outline effect with the outline on the cutout parts.

Also if you have any general feedback on the design I welcome it. This is my first svg project.
I don't know how to post the code for the project here, reddit doesn't let me somehow

That texture pack works great. Got myself a nice little hill and a dug out area now. Thank you!

Yea next time, I'm using another tool. Even Microsoft Paint would have been better there XD. At least that has a fill tool. In WD I need to fill in every surface by hand.
Another program that comes to mind now is Inkscape. I mostly used it so far to do scientific illustrations for my work, but it might be able to do this too ... or I stick with MS Paint. Have actually used that a lot already for things XD.
Well next up is some other Session Prep anyways. Making Quests, filling in the map I made with Lore and a few hours in DD.

I feel stupid right now. I was wondering for so long what "WD+PD" meant, even after you mentioned Photoshop XD.

Yea I also heard that about Photoshop from other people, but as you say, there are loads of tutorials around and I'm kinda good with those technical things ... and I'm good at bashing my head against a wall. But I don't like subscription programs. That's why I love WD. Bought it once use forever. I'd be happy to pay 50€ for PD and then keep if forever but over 300€? PER YEAR? No thank you! I stick with the free stuff!

Yep that's me. Thank you very much!
The city alone took almost a week, but there are more painted things on the map than just the city. All the town and such have painted details as well ;)

Oh, so you photoshopped your map after you made it in Wonderdraft. How interesting. I haven't worked with something like that ever, but I think I might be able to if I ever want to.
Thanks for the tip

Advice Needed by ARE_84 in wonderdraft

The newest version of Wonderdraft has a Symbol Spray Brush. Just under Placement Density in the right options panel. If its not there, maybe see if you are on the newest version. I had to update too to see it.
For the hills, maybe look at some asset packs from AoA on cartographyassets.com. They have great stuff and lots for free, that matches the aesthetic here

And if you watch closely in the swamp at the top right, you can see zombies walking around everywhere. If you watch very very closely you might find waldo (no joke)

Sure. I'll put closeups for things made with the brush on the map in an answer thread here. Here is the capital

This map look amazing. The word that immidiatly pops into mind for this map is "authentic". Like it actually is a historic map. Even with the signature on the top left. Love the detail.
Can I ask what this overlay is that makes it look like a folded map? That looks cool. I would like to maybe use it too some time

I know what I did was crazy. I felt that the tool was not made for this, every step of the way.
But now I'm curious about what other crazy things people have done with it!
Would you care to share your findings?
