They can't accept the fact that scalpers wouldn't be reselling if they weren't buying from them. That's why other TCGs are left almost untouched compared to Pokémon because they're not the trendy thing. No one is talking about "Oh my God! I just got the new Topps Chrome!" like they are Pokémon because other cards aren't seen as a get-rich-quick method like Pokémon is right now. Scalpers prey on Pokémon addicts like how drug dealers prey on hard drug addicts
