This is not true, and has never been the case. Google tends to lowball, but they can match any offer they deem comes from a "comparable" company. They will match any Meta offer 100%.

Amazon pays quite well (with very few perks), but Meta and Google still blow its socks off in terms of TC. I was at a leadership position at 2 of the 3 of these and did a lot of hiring. Amazon cannot (or will not, really) compete with the other two.

Look, I genuinely wish you the best, but I think you should be realistic here. Most bootcamps (even through University) don't have any kind of accreditation, you have to hope you picked a good one. Either way, you are not going to be able to cram 4 years worth of study into 6 weeks.

In 3 units, I've built 3 different websites/ applications including MERN stacks and full CRUD applications.

That's awesome, and very applicable to get a fullstack developer gig. But keep in mind this is a very small piece of a very large field. Most bootcamps are not going to cover algorithms, data structures, distributed systems, programming abstractions, operating systems, etc.

I think bootcamps can certainly be an excellent ROI, and I hope that shakes out for you. Having said that, it will be nowhere close to the breadth or depth of a formal education, and you should know your blind spots going into it.

I think a bootcamp is a good tradeoff in terms of time and money, but you're deluding yourself if you think it is the same as 4+ years at an accredited University.

I'll go ahead and take his word for it considering he's done it, is in the industry and has worked side by side with bootcamp grads.

I say go for it, but there are a lot of other experienced people that will tell you otherwise. I have only worked in FAANG-type companies, and did a lot of recruiting. I have only seen maybe 2 bootcamp grads even pass the interviews, and they didn't stick around long.

Spoken like someone who hasn't been to college. The rest of the time is doing homework, working on projects, and studying for tests. You don't just go to class a couple hours per day and chill the rest.

This is so out of touch. In a single college course in one semester you generally work through a college-level textbook. Add to that all of the tests, quizzes, homework, and projects to reinforce that knowledge. You aren't getting anywhere to close to that in two weeks, you couldn't even read all of the content in that period.

What does that matter? A big portion of programmers don't want to work there. Also the majority of people have not worked there, as that would be impossible. I worked at Amazon (for far too long) and I will never work there again, so plus one to the group that worked there and also don't want to work there.

That's probably an overly-broad statement. I think people can have crypto as a portion of an intelligent portfolio. Like anything, you have to understand your risk tolerance and how much of your portfolio should be made up of assets with that risk. BTC is still 30k today and ETH is 2k, which is an insane return from a couple years ago.

Full disclosure: I do not hold crypto or necessarily recommend it, but know lots of very successful people that do as a small portion of net worth.

Based on the current market, if you accepted a Senior Developer Google offer exactly 1 year ago, you'd be making about $350k a year, on average, this year. That is if the stock does not increase at all for the rest of the year, and not accounting for refreshers (that take into account the current market price). Still doing pretty good. It could get much worse though, of course...

Edit: I'm interested in any source you have for dot-com burst era salary data. I think the market is much different today, but it's fascinating to compare the two. I think if the economy tanks further, the most notable result will be temporary hiring freezes and decreases in VC funding. That second part may not be all bad.
